Capello stays on as england manager

Good point. I think he still has something to contribute to the team though should he be able to build an understanding with a central defensive partner that is good enough.

Plus despite his off the field antics, I think he's still a much better leader on the field than anyone else.

Maybe at the moment he is, but hopefully we'll have a younger and better player emerging over the next few years.

If I was Capello, I would have sent Terry home after what looked to me like a deliberate attempt to cause friction within the team.

There was no one else to replace him. Sending him home would have been idiocy.

It would have been risky I agree but one player is not greater than the team as a whole. The team has to be put first, even if that means sacrificing a good player. I can't believe for one second that Terry's behaviour leading up to and during the WC helped promote team unity.

FA couldn't afford to sack him if they wanted to, to be fair, Wembley has been sucking the money out of them. Maybe they are hoping that the tabloids will eat him alive and force him to resign without a massive payout.

Personally I don't blame him for our World Cup, he has made some "interesting" decisions but nothing to warrant the performance, the players would have to take some blame for that.

Who came up with the term 'golden generation' anyway? What I'd give to stick a Gascoigne or even a Waddle or Barnes in the side...

Yet again more england fan rose tinted glasses of the past. Barnes was **** for england. My god he was good for Liverpool but garbage for england.

I'm happy for capello to stay if he changes from playing out of form players out of position and if he can get more from Rooney.

Same people who keep banging on about the '66, it's been over 40 years and now getting embarrassing frankly.

I'm glad he's staying - it would have been daft to get rid of a manager like Capello with all his experience.

Just hope he sorts out the squad now and cuts a lot of the dregs from there and brings in some different players now ones for the future.

What experience, every manager, every player says internationals are NOT like club games, or setups. Capello has a wealth of experience at club level, his only experience of the Italian team came with a similar performance to England, a bunch of top players who couldn't play well together, couldn't get any spirit into the team, played as individuals, played FAR worse than they ever do for their clubs and crashed out in their worst performance of recent decades going home to an embarassed and angry Italian public to answer to.

Capello, managed to replicate the ONLY experience he's had at international level, surprising, no, he doesn't know what makes an international team manager, because he's never seen it, ever. The fact that he replicated EXACTLY the same abject performances and lack of cohesion and complete inability to replicate club form as when he was at the world cup doesn't seem surprising to me.

The fact that people expect a man whose shown entirely no ability to work well on the international stage, to turn it around with absolutely no positives to take from the last two years, with the team getting worse.

Sky only people I've ever used hear the phrase "golden generation" in regards to this England side.

Glad he's stoping on.

Tbh the crap thats been flung his way by the press has been beyond belief.

The whole no english rubbish, sure never effected the guys for the previous year plus he'd been in charge... carlo ancelotti with a similar command of english had no problem with lampard, terry, coles and co when leading them to the epl last year.

No walcott.. the same one that was being hammerd by fan and press alike before the world cup.. things go wrong, why didn't he take him X...

Heskey for a goal.. well in the previous games when he'd bought crouch on, what did he do... and lets be honest, if defoe hadn't had got that goal, you'd have been wondering if he'd been on the pitch or at the game.

Whats made me laugh over the last week the most, the whole english manager thing... everytime they've harked back to sven, compared to now, screamed need english, totaly forgeting about sorry macca and his 'mates' culture approach to the team they were lamenting as foolish before.. now we need back again.

Bizarre.

Wish the guy all the best, if for nothing more than to shove it up the gutter press.

Just hope a decent right back comes through in the next couple of years.

i will still never understand why heskey came on against germany or why we played man citys out of form right winger on our left when man citys top form left winger was sat at home wondering why he never even got a real chance in friendlies and warmups

just hope he sticks to his word of trying out new players.(look at what maradona managed with that , 100 players he tried wasnt it ?) must say i dont trust him that much after his old promise of playing in form players rather than stars though

might aswell give him a chance mind. im sure he learnt a hell of a lot about the players after those dire performances

And did england ever win the world cup with those players? Or with Beckham or Platt, or Lineker or Owen? Nope. It's not so much about individual players as it is the sum of their parts. Until england can play as a slick ball passing team, it doesn't really matter how elite any one player is.
