Capello stays on as england manager

You do not win a cup with negative tactics

Greece at Euro 2004?

Qualifiers, well, are like a Premier league team playing a bunch of non league and a couple championship teams together. Croatia have fallen apart, don't forget that Eduardo was their best player by a mile till his injury, hasn't had more than a dozen proper games since his injury and hasn't got anywhere near back to his best. The rest of the Croatian team were crap aswell, we did NOT demolish a great team, we demolished a completely different team to the one we played a couple years previously.

The rest of the Croatian team were crap? Does that include Modric, Kranjcar and Corluka who will all be playing Champions League football with Spurs next year? What about the other players like Pranjic, Olic and Lovren with major league titles and Champions League experience to their name? They are weaker from the side that beat that humbled Steve McLaren's England at Wembley but not by a great deal.

I'd say that they're at least as good as half the teams who qualified for the World Cup.

Well if they were as good as half the teams that did qualify for the WC then why didnt they qualify???.

Like Jakeke just said Croatia are a pretty rubbish team even with those players you just mentioned ie Modric, Kranjcar and Corluka.

Oh look, someone picks my post apart based on their inability to read. I'll even point it out, you QUOTED the first part, then decided to point out he wasn't fired from Every club he's managed.......... now please point out the word EVERY in the bit you quoted?
I'm sorry, it was kind of implicit in the way you said "clubs", given that it was, in fact, ONE club.

ONE club fired him for winning defensively. A club that was too hung up on attacking play to ever realise they had a serious lack of defensive organisation during the entire Galactico period. Hardly damning proof of his terrible style.

I'm not even going to bother arguing the rest, it's just rambling that equates to "Not picking my preferred team is a GIMMICK" (I kept the capitals, they seem to be important to you).

Well if they were as good as half the teams that did qualify for the WC then why didnt they qualify???.
You're just being facetious right? Because I think it's fair to say that there's a stronger collection of teams in Europe than there are in, say, North America, or the middle east, or Oceania. Yet making it a World Cup means diversifying the pool.

Or do you think North Korea are a better team than Russia, on account of managing to qualify?

iirc Modric missed quite a lot of games due to injury, as did Eduardo (at different times though, so they never played together)

Modric missed the second England match, yes.

He missed more than one game though, I thought it was several? Didn't Modric break his leg? Basically their 2 best players didn't play together during qualifying, for a team like Croatia that's quite damaging

That's without mentioning Croatia were playing below their level throughout the campaign and were very poor in several games

He missed a few games but I'm only interested in the teams that Croatia put out against England as a measure of whether Capello shoud keep his job as England manager.

In Zagreb, Croatia's team was: Pletikosa, Simunic, Robert Kovac, Corluka, Pranjic, Rakitic, Petric, Nico Kovac, Srna, Modric and Olic. Eight of them played in the 2-0 win at Wembley. Croatia had never been beaten at home before. Croatia were still ranked as the 6th best team in Europe at the end of 2009. And yet we thrashed them 4-1. Freak result? A poor Croatian team? Or is Capello a better manager than the English managers who came before him?

Is Capello perfect? No. However, we shouldn't take qualification for granted. In the last 40 years, we've only qualified for 13 out of 20 international tournaments. His record is still better than most.

I only joined in on this page so my whole point is Croatia weren't very good in quals, I don't know the rest of the argument :p

When England are three goals down to Germany and you leave Crouch on the bench and send that cart-horse Heskey on, you not only deserve to be fired, you deserve to have your arse kicked from pillar to post.

Unbelievable! Capello clearly made a lot of mistakes and failed to get the best out of his players. The FA must be the world's best employers. Who else would retain someone who perfomed so badly!
