Everybody knows I'm not one for making excuses for Utd, and I'm not, they were terrible.

I can't comment on how good they are generally but today they played really well. Sometimes lower league sides can cause upsets playing a defensive, direct style of play but they actually got the ball down and played, and played well.

The 'long ball football' myth about lower league football is exactly that, when Wednesday were in League One I was very surprised at the good quality of football played, even posting about it on here, so MK Dons playing quite good football was not surprising.

It remains that they are a very average side for League One (they've made some good signings) they played well, I do not disagree, but Manchester United were inept. Totally inept.

Wait, what? I didn't even know there were any games today, so when my mate said they lost 4-0 to MK Dons I thought he was taking the ****. Mother of God, what a downfall. I hope the money is worth the massive embarrassment of switching from the top team in the world to utter *****, Di Maria. :D

LvG: "I can change the system with Di Maria, he can play on the wing, or in midfield."

Might be a move to 4-3-3 (or whatever) on the cards then. Or, a 4-3-1-2.

I wonder how many more people are going to not look at the game or anything and pop up with these comments. :o

Both our wing backs were making their debut, I think we can cut them a little slack. Changing a system is never an overnight thing.

I do not disagree that changing a system does not happen over night, however, changing the system to a system that (in my opinion) is not the right one, considering the league and players available is the problem :p.

Three at the back could work, but United would need to sign two or three quality defenders, as well a couple of much improved midfielders.

It works at Juventus because they have superior defenders, midfielders and full backs and play in a League where three at the back, with two wing backs, is not only the norm but works because of how other teams play.

Juve often get found out in Europe though.

I totally think four, three, three would be a better system or four, two, three, one or four, three, two, one.

I didn't say all lower league sides played long ball games.

My comment was specifically about Cup upsets. I can't think of many times where a big PL side has been out played by a lower league team. Most of the upsets that I can recall have come when the lower league side play defensive, long ball football. When a lower league side tries to play football against a big PL side they usually have their arse handed to them because they're trying to match them up despite having far inferior players.

Yeah but I chose to post here instead and Robbo kindly answered my questions.
I'm terribly sorry you would appear to have a problem with outsiders, maybe you should get some fresh air :)

No problem with newcomers at all mate. But when you come in and spout stuff like:

"Man Utd, with a bunch of experienced star players, how is it possible they can lose by this much even with a new manager?"

Which even a casual glance at the teamsheet would show isn't true then you should be prepared to be called out on it :)

I'm going to take a massive guess and say they were playing their youth team, but it's still shocking.

Mostly, but most disappointingly for me the few more experienced players were all especially awful as well. :/

Evans had a nightmare, he's not the best defender in the world but he's a solid performer, or he used to be.

I totally think four, three, three would be a better system or four, two, three, one or four, three, two, one.

The guy who does the ZonalMarking website says we should play 4-3-1-2: http://www.espnfc.com/blog/tactics-...gaals-tactical-evolution-at-manchester-united

Not sure if he's a great football mind or not, but it's worth a read. Seems to make sense.

i doubt he's the most headstrong of blokes and has probably had his belief knocked. this result will have further deflated it. another reason lvg should've started some senior players to make a statement of intent, to get the win, show the youngsters what it's like to win with the senior players and move on.

it's bad management. tonight was an ideal opportunity to get his first win on english turf.

Cox is fantastic, lovely bloke and I rarely disagree with him.

I would argue that, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-2-1 could potentially work too :).

Another clear indication following on from what I said the other day, Uniteds youth coaches and scouts also need a kick up the ****. Living off days gone by. They talked of it on the radio this week too, how United are now just the same as everyone else spending 30+ on player because the young players aren't up to it.

How on earth did Ferguson win the league with this side?

Perhaps we are starting to see just how special a manager he really was :p

Miracle worker.

I don't care about teamsheets, it was a simple question that didn't need arrogant replies. Please, get off that high horse before you fall and hurt your back. :)

Di Maria's gonna need to break all kinds of assist records if this bunch are going to score enough goals to win matches with that kind of defending!
