This is the best set of players Everton have had since the 80's. Martinez is doing a woeful job with them. It's clear the press now have started to get the message with many more of them picking up on how good the players are and how bad the results have been while we leak goals for fun. I don't see many of the better players in this side being around next year with a manager sitting them 8th-10th.
He couldn't build a solid defense if his life depended on it.
lol, one thing, Martinez put together the squad and they are so much more exciting to watch than any Moyes team it's embarrassing.
Second, it isn't the best squad, it's the squad with the best potential. For every great match Barkley has, he has a completely rubbish one where he makes almost every wrong choice. Deulofeu is another player who one game is brilliant the next is crap. His last few games in particular have been very poor, he looks exciting but he gets bogged down. Rather than running at defenders he constantly slows down then does loads of step overs and often blasts a cross or shot into the defender. This is the thing with several young players in key positions, they are inconsistent. On their game, like today(well not Deulo imho), they can beat City, another day and Barkley drives forward with the ball, fullbacks, midfielders and attackers flood forwards then he does something stupid and leaves the team vulnerable to the counter attack.
Stones, Galloway are also inconsistent, injuries have hurt Everton a lot, Stones last year so they had to stick with Distin till he was back. This year Jag out, though Distin's replacement is far better, he's improving by the game. However it's more Stones really making some big rookie mistakes that with a experienced Jag alongside him he made less of those mistakes. Baines is back from injury and gaining form by the game but not at his best. Everton aren't a team that will have monumental depth and they aren't a team that can go oh, 3-4 players have gotten too old, lets replace them all in one transfer window. howard being replaced, probably not this month, probably in summer, will also have a very big effect on the side.
It is funny though that you claim this is the best side you've had considering you kept saying there was nothing at all special and no signs of anything special about Lukaku.
As for the current form, 27 points after 20 games was something Moyes didn't achieve in his last 4 seasons at Everton... it only looks bad compared to Martinez's first year. Raise your expectations and now you're saying he's terrible by ignoring the inconsistency inherent in the young players you're claiming are so good.
