Car parked in my allocated space

Leave a polite note on the car. Its probably a neighbour.

If it's been there since last year it's unlikely the neighbour will even be looking.

Can the car be reported to the police as abandoned, then to be towed away by them?

I'd bet that being on private land and not blocking anyone in that the police won't be interested. You'd end up having to go the legal route.

Weirdly enough that episode of The Big Bang Theory was on E4 this evening

I was surprised it took to the end of page one before someone mentioned poo.

In all seriousness, either go via the management company or pay the DVLA the £2 or however much it is these days for their details (either way you’ll be paying for the enforcement action…) and deal with it accordingly.

If you don’t know who’s car it is, the management company probably doesn’t either so one of you will be going to the DVLA.

Edit: link below - bullet point 3 in the criteria.

Get the owners details, ask them to move it.

Step one before doing this is to probably go and knock on some doors and have a polite conversation first to find out who’s it is and ask them to move as you now need it.

Stick a polite note on saying you've just got a car and need to use it now. If they continue to park there, smear poo (preferably your own) all over the door handles.

how many 'free' parking bays are nearby...is it a good parking spot near your house/flat entrance doors, any visitor parking bays nearby?
Theres a few visitor bays, most days all full up. My actual spot is just around the corner from my flat about 30 meters away.
The only reason i haven't tried to park it somewhere else round here is because I haven't driven for 15 years, except for 1 refresher lesson last week. I've got 2 more lessons booked and after that i intend to take the car back to mine and park it in my spot. Currently the car is parked at my parents about 5 miles away.

See if you can find out if it's been SORN'd. If not you may be able to get it moved/impounded.

It's very frustrating when that happens. I recently had to buy an old shed of a car to stop people parking on our land in work. Made sure it was SORN etc. Very satisfying :)
