well i'm just going to state the obvious here that a permanent shelter is going to be far superior in terms of its ability to last.

if it were me i'd be spinning this as an excuse to get a proper garage made for storage not only of the car but for tools, gardening equipment etc.

Ive got a double Garage. But I converted it to a recording studio....years ago.

I have four stables but they have My Motorbike in , and tools and mowers etc...

If I was to empty one out it wouldn't fit my car in...

Just a marquee really, people use similar for home car paint jobs.

You'd need to make sure it was properly secured to the ground but if you don't mind the look of it then I guess it would do the job.

Personally I'd build a wooden frame and cover with shed roofing material and if money is tight use plastic sheeting as a short term solution for the walls and add cladding later on. Could even add insulation at a later date if you use a decent width for the frame.

Edit: missed the pic showing location, a pergola style shelter would look good in that corner.

This sort of thing:

That would look miles better..But It would still be open to the elements...

Could probably weatherproof it quite easily if you need total cover, heavy duty plastic sheeting (clear if you aren't running power) attached tight and neat on the inside of the exposed side and put some creeper plants and trellis on the outside. Make some barn style doors pretty easily, depends how handy you are I guess.

All comes down to what you want and how long it will be up, if the original idea does what you need go for it but it wouldn't take long for the nagging to start if I put that up :o

Agree It would look like a bit of an eyesore

It will blow away during a strong wind one night :D

It would be anchored to concrete.

Think I'm going to do this

http://www.wickes.co.uk/how-to-videos/garden-landscaping

get some posts and some 6ft and 5Ft fence panels

http://www.wickes.co.uk/Products/Gardens/Fencing/Fence-Panels/c/1000699

Then some bitumen roofing

Make a lean to type thing.

Can you build a car port or something similar? I bought a wooden one to go over our patio at the rear of our house. Pressure treated wood. Just drilled into the wall with two posts concreted into the floor. Came with a polycarbonate roof. Paid less than a grand although I put it up myself. Would look a hell of a lot better. It was pre fabricated by a builder on eBay so just slid together but could quite easily be done by yourself if you can use a saw.

My car is safely tucked away in one for the exact reasons you mentioned in the OP and because my car can go weeks without being driven.

I spent around £300 on the tent and about £100 making sure it was properly anchored down and safe.

Im happy with it.

I have emailed a few people for quotes for a kit 4.5m x 6m

This one here 4.2m x 3m is £255

Just put a roof on it and some garden fencing on the sides.

Yeah they just look a bit in your face...A wooden one would blend in to the garden with some planting nearby etc...(my sister is a florist) :p

car cover - like £80 will do the same job. spending £300 on a tent seems daft. might as well build a proper car port for that.

there are online shops which sell them customised to fit your car. they even have magnets built into the fabric. so that means no flapping or scratching your car.
