Ive heard off a reliable source that sometimes your speedo will freeze when you crash. So say if you crash doing 70mph and you say you were only doing 40 then the wreckage is checked you will get a right telling off.
However mangled you are make sure to pop the glass and reset it to 30ish (or 120 if you dont want to drive again!)

riiiiiiight......

I don't know if it was a joke or something, but it's not true. They wouldn't look at the needle to check your speed when you've crashed. I've seen the dashboard of a wrecked Mondeo in a scrap yard and I remember laughing that it's speedo was indicating 137.

The speedometer, needle, sensor, magnet and disc could all be damaged in the crash. It's not reliable enough evidence.

It's like saying they could tell if you were driving with your music too loud if they found the radio to be turned up full after the crash. Any number of things could have caused the radio to be knocked up loud during the crash etc.

In other news - I heard from a reliable source that if you pull a funny face and the wind changes - your face will stick like that forever.

No really.

You would need to get out and scrub the skid marks off the road and brain wash the witnesses who saw you belt it down the road by the school at 100mph. :p

Firstly I was going to move this to Motors.

Then I read the OP and I was going to delete the thread.

Now I'm sat here wondering how anyone could possibly believe that :D

From watching too many episodes of Road Wars (they always film my home town of Slough so its fun to watch) its quite fascinating how they work it all out.

This skid mark shows he was doing 98mph...
This paint scratch is where he clipped the curb...
This splodge is where he landed after being ejected out of the window

Well I suppose it is a Motors topic, and you should go with your first instincts sometimes...
