Car speedo tip

Here is a link about a case in the US of a guy who was convicted by the information data logged by his car's air bag system....

http://www.harristechnical.com/downloads/4DCA1.pdf

I have no idea if the same system is used in the UK or not but makes interesting reading.

LOL @ the original post though.
Good find. So, all cars with airbags have these.

Interesting reading.

A USA Today article on it suggested 20 million cars in the US had the "blackbox" fitted. They also said all cars with airbags have it but I don't know how accurate (US only? True at all?) that is.

I guess that airbag system needs to know direction and speed of the car to determine if to activate or not and which ones to activate.

So what excuse do you give for the 50 meter skid marks behind the car?

Crash investigators are not that stupid

IBTL :p

Speedo tip #2 - in the event of a crash, avoid suspicion by the investigators by not braking beforehand. This will stop skid marks being produced and you will get away scot free.

Hmmm, abs is meant to stop you from skidding right? So how would the police be able to tell whether you were previously travelling at 50mph or 90mph before you stacked it?

Ive heard off a reliable source that sometimes your speedo will freeze when you crash. So say if you crash doing 70mph and you say you were only doing 40 then the wreckage is checked you will get a right telling off.
However mangled you are make sure to pop the glass and reset it to 30ish (or 120 if you dont want to drive again!)

ROFL...

I suppose if you didn't wear your seatbelt, and made sure you ducked when you crashed, you could use your head as a method of breaking the glass and attacking the speedo?

Sorted :)

Whenever I've skidded with ABS I've got a dotted skid mark where the brakes lock momentarily, then release then lock and release etc.

I did actually put mustard on my eyebrows though! ...and it seems to have worked (there darker anyway now)

997/996 and a lot of the newer mercs, log distance, speed ,time and gearing in there ecus.
proof.....yes i work on them. ;)

also the airbag systems on the european cars are not quite as sophisticated as there american, cousins.

look on the bright side, if you sign up to payg insurance with a black box, or you have a tracking system fitted, chances are the technology is already there for big brother to see the speed, its all down to the telematics. :D
