Car theft

i'd have loved to have seen the looks on their faces after they went out to the car to find it was gone though :)

I like to imagine that they waved their fists in the air and shouted, 'why I oughtta!' :p .

1. Yes it was his to take back if he wanted to
2. It has certainly dashed any hope of a conviction against the thieves
3. Any such conviction would most likely have been worthless anyway and resulted in a couple of hours of community service for the perpetrators
4. Frankly I wouldn't want a stolen car back no matter what condition it was in, I'd rather they burnt it out and I got a nice shiny new one :D

But he'd lose his no claims. Which is very important at 19.
Next premium would have been a joke...

Right you now know where they live:

Sneak back in the middle of the night and spray in weed killer "Thieving scum live here." on the front lawn. Wait 24 hours for the secret message to appear.

Just an idea...

I know it would be wiser to wait for the cops and hope for a conviction, but my car is my most valuable posession, and because it was a gift from my grandfather (who died shortly later) it has great sentimental value also. My fear of losing the car might override my patience and hope of police arriving before they came back out and took off again.
I would love to say I could wait for the police, but I'm not sure I actually would.

Personally, if I'd seen the car in somebody else's drive I wouldn't be ringing the police.

I'd be calling me up "a coupla hard, pipe-hittin' *******, who'll go to work on the homes with a pair of pliers and a blow torch". :D

The reason why the police said they couldn't do anything is because they needed to catch the *******s red handed so to speak. If you friend's car was reported stolen but then later recovered by him then the thieves could very well deny theft as they weren't claiming ownership of the property.

As for the fingerprints on the cigarette packets all they would have to say is that they bumped into your mate in the street and bummed a smoke off him...It's stupid but that would be a perfectly adequate defence in court.

As for fingerprints on things like the steering wheel, it's actually quite difficult for police to get accurate and complete prints from the grips on the wheel. The only evidence they could get in short is the fingerprints from cigarette packets which on there own aren't even worth the time taking for the theft of a car that was recovered by the owner.

Crap, I know but there you go. :(
