Car thieves

The police have put my car on a watch list now. Not sure what good that'll do other than maybe a car on the estate for 5 minutes once a week.

I've put it in a secure lockup for six months whilst I sort out a house with a garage. The poor woman looked like she was going to cry with joy when I told her she wasn't going to have to worry about it anymore.

Jesus, it really has got bad in cities like Manchester, Birmingham and London. I can't believe people have to worry about parking their car on their drive at night in case some scum comes through the window to get it.

This can only be a product of reduced police and courts getting more and more soft on defendants. If only people knew what happens in the background! Most people will get a 3 year prison sentence for something like this, discounted by a third if they admit to it, so that's 2 years, then spend half in jail, half on licence, so that's one year, and many are released under early release schemes to free up places in prison - so maybe 8 months of a 3 year sentence will be served in prison, then they're back on the street committing hundreds of these burglaries before they're caught again and the cycle continues.

Sounds like a man with experience in this area! :D (I jest of course).

So unfortunately if you drive a 'performance' car these days the OEM security is pretty poor...doesn't matter if it is an Audi, VW or BMW. I suspect the Merc AMGs are slightly better out of the box when it comes to preventing people from driving off without the keys (although this comes with its own issues).

The way I see it, a quality alarm with all the bells and whistles is the way forward. If they enter the house, make sure the keys are very much in front of them to take. No car is worth endangering human life for.

If they try without the keys and manage to take it with a quality alarm, then to be frank they deserve to take it! GAP insurance will sort out the rest :)

Time to buy her a dog. Something like a German Shepherd. I have 4 and no one is getting in without my say so. They are also Police trained.

It’s more that if anyone approaches the front door, tries it or any of the windows, they’ll go crazy and that alerts me.

Our male GSD who is 60KG of sheer muscle and fur is particularly protective of the house.

Until they eventually break in to a genuine lunatic's house and end up crippled or eaten by a rottweiler, then the poor guy defending his own property gets a far longer sentence.

Or not, as already mentioned above.

Unless they think defending themselves is shooting someone’s in the back as they’re running away?

I used to work with a lot of single guys on very high wages living in Wales.

The number of times they would buy high-end performance cars and they would get knicked within 4-6 months or body kits stolen.

Every time the car got stolen it was because the keys were taken. End if the day the only security of there 60-70k car was a cheap £5 take lock.

How long before insurance companies either refuse to insure certain cars or require houses of said cars to have a minimum; cctv, alarms, updated locks and lockable bollards at the bottom of drives.

Who cares if they got shot in the front, the back or from underneath. Good on the home owner for removing sub-human filth I say.

You enter someone's home to commit crime then you should waver your human rights. These scum bags don't care about you or the impact they have upon your life. If they're mugging you in the street they don't care if they stick a knife in and kill you. Where I live they don't care if the stolen car they're joyriding in has run down a 4 year old girl and smashed her tiny body to pieces.

Why should I care? Why should any law abiding citizen care about the welfare of sub-human trash?

There's one thing shoplifting from a supermarket because you are starving, there's another thing breaking and entering a home to steal cars.

Anyone who defends these thieves deserves to be hanged alongside them as traitors.

Completely with you and if it was legal to do so anyone entering my home to take my stuff I'd happily kill them and then I'd also feel good about removing such scum from the planet. Might sound harsh but I have zero time and patience for such scum, they deserve to die and I'd happily pull the trigger if they were trying to take my stuff or harm me or my family.

On the positive side we don't have guns in the UK (well easily) which means anyone entering our homes is far less likely to also have a gun, on the downside they might have a knife or other weapon so there is always risk of injury to yourself as being woken up and shocked puts you in a poor place to defend yourself really against a thief, hence why police generally recommend to not resist.

As such I just do what I can to try and put them off, have a dog, car is alarmed, tracker, steering wheel lock, parked behind one way opening gates, keys to steering lock and gates are separate to car keys so they would have to faff about a lot and our local police station is at the bottom of the road. Leave the keys if wireless entry in a metal tin box over night or microwave so they sods cannot use the boost signal device they have to just get in your car and drive away.

I get that people shouldn't risk their lives or their freedom over a piece of property. Property is insured and can be replaced, but there is still the psychological distress from being broken into when you are asleep and completely vulnerable.

Sure they are only after your car but there's been a couple of instances of arson too that has led to the death of home owners. There have been sexually assaults on the elderly in their own homes.

The reason that criminals are so bold in their crimes is that the punishments are so weak. There are too many human beings on earth as it is, so why are we bothered about keeping around the most deviant ones???

Bit optimistic with your sentencing there most don’t even get that. There was that story that was in all the papers a few months ago of some drug addict who had something like 40 previous convictions for theft and burglary tried to break into a family’s house and then when he couldn’t get in started trying to take there car on the drive. When the owner heard this and went out the burglar still had the cheek to aggressively confront the owner for disturbing him and all he got was 12 weeks in jail.
Meanwhile because the owner fearing for his family’s safety went out with a hammer and punched the burglar keeping him there till the police arrived he was arrested for assault and faced 2 years in prison and even lost his job through stress waiting 12 months for the court case. Lucky enough the jury seen sense and he got away with it.
You wonder why crime is on the rise. There should be a campaign to change the law for people to defend themselves in there own home otherwise it’s only going to get worse.

Better to beat the crap out of them, dump them on the street and not call anyone tbh :p

I know a guy who bashed a burglar around the jaw with a hammer (messed him up pretty badly actually). They then carried him out, dumped him on the street and called an ambulance. "No one saw anything" lol. Better than a few weeks in jail, they won't try that address again.

Have been working on upgrading our house security little by little. First off was the front door, which frankly nobody is getting through without some sort of specialist equipment. CCTV covers the entire front and back of the house and the open nature of the road means you can't park/hide anywhere without the entire street being able to see you.

All the windows are security filmed which is bonded to the window frames from the inside which are then bolted into the masonry, so thats a no goer for a smash and grab.

Just waiting on a new high security back door to be finished being built (as its full glass they are applying a thicker security film which theyve been waiting for delivery) and once that goes in the easiest way to get into our house would probably be to drive a truck through one of the walls.

Nice I like it :D do u mind me asking what can be done to the front and back doors to make them more secure? Was not aware there was much out there apart from better locks which never seem to do much on your typical double glazing upvc doors?

Would it not be cheaper to move to a nicer area..... lol

I drive Vauxhall’s so no chance they are going to break in to steal them.

So called nicer area’s are sometimes targeted more by outside gangs looking for expensive motors.
