Car thieves

Nice I like it :D do u mind me asking what can be done to the front and back doors to make them more secure? Was not aware there was much out there apart from better locks which never seem to do much on your typical double glazing upvc doors?

The typical UPVC rubbish can be kicked in with your boot so upgrading the locks is pointless, the answer is buy something like a Rockdoor.

Googled Rockdoor seen that 7 out of the first 12 google reviews are 1 star decided I’ll take my chances with the Upvc rubbish :D

A business doesn't exist on this planet without dissatisfied customers, Rockdoor are one of the top 3 composite door manufactures in the UK and produce doors so hard to break into the fire service can only gain access by using a petrol powered Stihl saw.

Reading the reviews, it seems like the quality can be so poor that you've got more worry about whether you can close it properly, nevermind how hard it might be to break open :p

Upgraded locks to SS312/SS313 diamond grade locks.

Front door is an endurance composite door which is a solid timber core, not foam filled like many cheap composite doors.

Back door opens outwards (to prevent "kicking the door in") and is a UPVC and Steel composite, with the glass being hardened and security glass, which is then re-enforced with security film which is bonded to the door frame.

Would it not be cheaper to move to a nicer area..... lol

Area is fine, but thieves don't give a **** how nice your area is, a target is a target.

If you are replacing doors/windows anyway (as we are) then the cost to add the extra security is pennies on the pound in the grand scheme.

I'm glad my car is in storage now. There was a copper walking down the street a little earlier, so I went out to ask if it was about my car as it's on the watch list.

Turns out there's been three burglaries for car keys on the estate in the past week. An M3 was taken over the weekend - they smashed the front door in and took the keys. :/

Might be better just having a solid steel vault blast door. Maybe ask a military base which is in the process of closing down :D

I don’t live in the best of areas, confirmed by some recent thefts on my estate.

One guy had his 08 plate TT stolen by someone forcing his front door to get the keys, another lost a tidy e46 330i, same m.o. forced the door and took the keys.
There’s also been a spate of shed break ins, my sheds door is always propped open, despite my tools, mower and jet wash being in it
Thankfully I’ve got somewhat good security (the best to have according to the local community support officer!)

I’ve got a rather large dog flap so they have access to my garden morning or night.....

Make sure you train them to only eat food given by you or from there bowl.

One of my friends had two defenders and a range rover stolen, despite him having three German Shepards in the compound. They chucked balls of mince over the fence laced with sleeping tablets. Killed one of the dogs due to overdosing the poor thing.

Police didn't care as usual, despite hd quality camera pictures of the thieves faces and original vehicle registration.
Luckily one of the defenders was skytag'd so they picked it up around Birmingham.. .

I must admit, this is my big fear, I did mention poisoning to the Officer who visited and to be fair, he did say the likleyhood of somebody poisoning two dogs for the contents of a shed are slim.

He said thankfully its a rare occurrence and Cats are far more likely to be poisoned than dogs.

Well, I've had this setup for a number of years and prior to the Dog flap I just left my back door open all day and never had an issue despite the area. I just hope it continues!

What did/didn't the police do? I find it very hard to believe that they "wouldn't care" if a dog had been killed, 3 vehicles stolen and the original registrations to look into.

Or is it a case of the police not catching anyone so in some people's minds that translates to they didn't care?

When I lived at home we had 4 out of 7 houses broken into. Ours was left alone for some reason and we found out before they broke in they would ring the door bell. Two boarder collies in our house would appear barking at the door, so police suspected they didn't want to get involved with that.

The thieves were getting in by a design floor in the windows of the new builds down that road.

I’ve had this also, door knock, dogs go bananas (my lad sounds particularly wolf like when he barks!) by the time I answer the door moments later cue two iffy looking types walking down the path claiming “wrong house mate” - it’s happened a few times over the years, and come to think about it, it’s councided with break ins in the vicinity.

I live in what was once the uk's murder capital, drugs and stabbings go on all the time.
My solution, though many won't do this is to live right on their doorstep, and get to know everyone.
I'm lucky in that it's a nice area, just don't get much peace and quiet.
Such type's won't soil on their own doorstep, doesn't take five minutes to figure out who's done what.

Quite interesting you mention that. We had a spate of shed and car break-ins near me. I live on a new estate and right next to it another new one has gone up but this time with the required % of 'affordable housing'. Guess who was responsible...

They were caught because private CCTV saw them literally leaving their front door and hopping over their neighbours fence then hopping back over with a hedge trimmer and some other goodies.

This is the infinite wisdom in building a 100k house right next door to a 500k house.
