Carabao Cup 4th Round Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th - 30th October 2024]

You're twisting things to suit your agenda, which isn't a surprise considering you're a Liverpool fan trying to throw shade at Manchester United.
Twisting things? Well firstly whenever I've seen the lad play in the PL he's looked distinctly average, one decent game, in a full strength side against Leicester's reserves in a cup game, and he's a starting lb for the best sides in Europe  and yes, you are damn right I am poking fun at a guy who claimed Liverpool fans over rate their players :p

To quote what you said regarding the clubs they left and signed for, they both left Chelsea and went to inarguably lesser prestigious teams in Roma and Wolfsburg. De Bruyne literally joined City 18 months later, it wasn't like it took him a multiple years at Wolfsburg to hit his potential.
yes, thats generally what happens when young players haven't/aren't living up to their 'potential', they drop down to a 'lesser' team to get game time and develop as a player.

The twisting things relates to the fact you can't on one hand imply he's a bad player because he was sold by a top European club (BM), to a club not performing at the same level within Europe (Manchester United). Yet ignore there are plenty of players who have proven to be good players, who have been sold by top performing teams to less successful clubs.

De Bruyne is a fantastic example of that, he was already capable, proven by what he started doing for City having only been out of the EPL for 18 months.

All I'm saying is it's not as simple as you're implying. There's players who have taken step ups in their career and blossomed, players who have done the same and not lived up to the mark. There are players who have moved to lower quality teams and leagues who have gone on to improve, or continue to be mundane.

I've personally been happy with his performances considering his short time with us, except for probably the Spurs game but the whole team were diabolically shocking.

Bad player? No. Functional player? Yes. One of the top fullbacks in the world who 'wouldn't look out of place at any of the really top teams in Europe?' No ******* chance.

I was merely pointing out that the guy had moved from one of the 'really top' teams in Europe to a not so good team and has played a handful of games and been average at best. Do you think Wolfsburg and Fiorentina fans were labelling de Bruyne and Salah as being amongst the elite after 9 games? Were they hell. Mazraoui may well go onto to become one the best rb's in the game ( ) but to label him such right now is asinine at best.

You're absolutely right, he's not world class and I've not labeled him as one of the best RBs in the game. Ultimately we're no where near where we want to be at the moment in terms of results, league position or the football we play on the pitch. However, I don't think Mazraoui is a fundamental contibutor to that issue.

Fundamentally he's an improvement on the squad, because we've hardly been spoilt for choice for right or left back (left back situation is clearly the bigger issue) and he's quite versatile as a squad player. Dalot gets ahead of him if he wasn't filling in on our left as he's better going forward and Mazraoui is a better backup vs AWB, he's better positionally and AWB wasn't great going forward.
