Carabao Cup Final Man Utd v Newcastle ** Spoilers ** [26th February 2023]

Bit disappointed as it was not the result we wanted, but the result most of us expected, not to disheartened TBH as it’s the start of our journey and we were far better in the second half, get rid of the championship players in our squad and add a little bit more talent and we will be cooking on gas.
We have Still massively overachieved this season and we would have tore hands of for a likely top8 finish and a cup final

Exactly it is not as if Newcastle will wait another 25 years for a cup final. In 2-3 more transfer windows and several hundred million they will be just like Man City. Hopefully done in less cheaty way however.

So all we needed to do was buy some good players, get rid of the deadwood and poor attitudes, hire a truly top class manger and good things happen. Simple stuff :p

Given our recent dip in form and ManU’s recent rise, I’m not expecting much. Just getting to the final is a bonus given where the club was this time last year.

I just hope that: a) if we lose, it’s not an absolute hammering and b) it’s a clean game with no major controversies.

Newcastle have a habit of doing things the hard way (a bit like England), so a no-drama result (either way) would be welcome.
Well, I guess I got what I asked for.

I still don’t understand how two players can be offside for a free kick and the goal still stands, but if those are the rules…

Other than that, can’t argue about the result. Someone else said it earlier, the game could have been 180 mins and Newcastle still wouldn’t have scored. I’v been saying for months, if we could finish we’d be dangerous. Too many draws in the league highlight this.

Wilson and Saint-Maximin were our two worst players today but full credit to the rest of the team. And I don’t think Pope would have made a difference.

We need some decent signings in the summer but I’m sure they’re working on it.

As I said in my earlier post, a cup final is a bonus all things considered, but it still hurts to lose after making it all that way.

Now let’s focus on the league and see if we can get a European spot for next season.

HWTL!

How tall is Kieran Trippier by the way. He was standing next to Martínez and looked about 3 inches smaller. Looked it up and he’s 5’10” apparently. I then spent the rest of the game looking up the height of anyone he stood next to. Not a popsicle he is 5’10”.

Big chances missed this season. I got stats for that. Top 3

Liverpool 51
Mancity 50
Newcastle 43

Howe was always going to start Wilson even though he's fell through the floor since making the World cup squad.

Missing 1 on 1's, Getting caught when he's put clean through. He's lost about 4 yards of pace. He can't hold the ball up or give and go.

We have players playing above their ceiling and they can't maintain it.

Miggy (the most one footed player I have ever seen), Schar and Burn they have all peaked.

Players with still room for improvement and can improve Wilock, Longstaff and Jolinton.

We are only at the start of our Journey. We had two windows and gone from relegation candidates to cup finalists and challenging for Europe.

Like I said a few posts up Manu have spent nearly 700m euro in the past 4 seasons

With two of those windows the spend was around 250m

What's the average cost if players bought by both Manchesters, Liverpool and Arsenal? I'm not counting Chelsea because there's a madman at the helm.

We only started to spend northwards of 40m on players.

Newcastle will spend a couple hundred mill this summer. I don't get your point?

If you want to win trophies you have to spend money. Look at your own club in the 90's. Go back to Trevor Francis being the first million pound player and forest winning the European cup. It is not rocket science.

You also say you have gone from relegation candidates to challenging for Europe. What other relegation candidates have spent several hundred million in the past year?
