Carabao Cup - Third Round ** Spoilers ** [25/26 September 2018]

Not that the League Cup matters too much, but we're better off cutting our losses and putting Carrick or someone in charge for now.

Get a Director of Football in, work with them to find a new suitable manager and back them to the hilt. That's the only way out now. Can be done, but it's just a shambles week after week.

This is how most football clubs exist.

Totally agree were going backwards needs to be sorted now not left to get worse

I've just seen an article that United have the second highest wage bill in Europe. Apart from De Gea and probably a few others on lower earnings the club are being taken for a ride.

We have far too many players on far too much money for their ability. Arguably there are probably 3 players that should be on really good money in that squad. Pogba, De Gea and Sanchez (only because we got him cheap and the wages were going to make up for that). We have a team full of players that should either be backup for a club of our size or they simply shouldn't be here. Lukaku is showing that he isn't good enough at the top level. For an upper mid table club he is great. Powerful, scores plenty and is better than they can expect for their position and spending. We are losing games because of his finishing. All sides lose games and have poor games and that is when you need a top strike to pull something out of the bag or do something special on their own; perhaps take the only chance in the game. Lukaku is not that sort of striker.

Yesterday brought home just how much lack any sort of cohesive style of play. Derby outplayed us all match. The fought more, worked harder, made more runs and generally came up the pitch as a unit. I assume they have not been great in recent years as they have just appointed Lampard, a man with little managerial experience and yet he has them playing as a team in 12 or so games with a bunch of players he probably wouldn't necessarily buy himself.

The problem is every player in your squad's wages is based on what your highest earners are getting paid. It's no different at any club - when Liverpool gave Suarez a £200k per week contract, within a couple of months Sturridge was getting a pay rise too to bring his earnings in line and then when Sterling's contract talks began his demands were based on what Sturridge was earning. For the sake of squad harmony there has to be some sort of pay structure in place - it's very difficult to justify paying one first team player three times what other first team players are earning, especially in the case of Pogba and Sanchez when they're not consistently performing considerably better than Fred/Matic or Rashford/Martial. New signings/players renewing their contracts will point to what the top earners are getting and say "I'm worth x percent of what they're on". Can you imagine what De Gea/his agent are saying in contract negotiations now? This guy has single handedly won you more games than the rest of your squad combined, if you're him do you accept a penny less than what Sanchez is getting?

Urgh please just bugger off Mourinho. Terrible manager these days managing a team that clearly doesn’t want to be playing for him

As inconsistent as Pogba is, I’d have him at United over Mourinho any day of the week

It's got to be distracting for the rest of the squad as well. It's not easy when two people at work have a disagreement in front of lots of staff, it makes everyone else around them feel really awkward, so the mood in the dressing room can't be good. It could also potentially divide the dressing room. I read some reports this morning that some of the senior United players are unimpressed with Mourinho's treatment of Pogba, who knows how accurate that is.

My issue is that I don't think United will ever play much better than they have done up until this point while Mourinho is still manager, whereas with the right manager I think there's still loads of potential for growth from Pogba. I'd rather see Mou gone then lose Pogba personally.

I mean, Pogba came in high energy, shaking hands with his coaches and Mourinho decides to stink up the place by saying something obviously purposefully to wind up Pogba. It's pretty clear where the issue lies and he's lost the team with turning on players multiple times before.

He turned on Terry who played through pain for a whole season for finally requiring a break to get treatment... i mean, literally a warrior of a player who played through the pain then got crap for actually finally having to rest, Mourinho is a horrendous person. This is so entirely predictable.... that I said it would happen when he joined, and said it would happen at Chelsea when he rejoined them.

He hasn't changed at all in the past decade, he's the same **** he's always been with a limited lifespan on how long players put up with his bull.

Liverpool 11: Mignolet; Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Moreno; Milner, Fabinho, Keita; Shaqiri, Sturridge, Mane

Looking forward to seeing Fabinho make his first start.

Good team, plenty of players having a rest for the match at the weekend which is far more important than tonight.

Weird that the back 5 are our back five from the end of the 2017 season and start of last season. We've come a very long way in a very short space of time.

This really really annoys me. We haven't won a trophy in a long time.

People assume the cups are worthless and ****. There not wining them builds confidence, we should be winning this and not treat it as a disposable one.

Cups games are important same as Saturdays game.
