Carcraft?

Easy Jaffa. Down boy. I accept I exagerated my statement to make a point. It's most likely a decent car but from prior experience I can't say I'm a Vauxhall fan.

As for my car, I knew what I wanted and went out and got one. I can't say I care for the Honda even though it is of a better spec for less lucre. However, I accept that the OP's firend may also have had their heart set on the Astra and if that was the point you were trying to make, I defer to your logic.

It's still a **** deal though. ;)

Plenty of people are happy to go and be bent over by the dealer. They don't ask for advice because they won't admit their ignorance and so shovel many thousands into the dealer network to keep the general dross on the roads. People like new, this is why the same people park their £20k new Astra outside their tiny new 4 bed house 'detatched' house, 2 feet apart from next door and made out of cardboard, on new estate that cost significantly more than a mature 4 bed semi with 50% more floor space. They buy a new 'top-of-the-range' fatsui plasma from Comet for £2k on finance that is too big for their livingroom and like laminate flooring. Throughout.

And all of the above is great. Because this Astra will be worth 8k in 3 years and be a reasonable deal and in 7 years it'll be in the price range to keep a young chav happy - shove some 19's on it and a sub in the boot with Lexus lights and Bob's your uncle. They generally have more income than sense but make up for it by doing the above and without them, the economy would be screwed.

Good luck to him tbh, though I will stick with my 11 year old 5 series for c.7% of the outlay!

But some people don't want to have the risk or worry of an old banger breaking down, they'd sooner just spend X amount a month and have piece of mind.

Yes you can get piece of mind by buying nearly new with warranty and saving a few grand, but I really don't see what problems people have with others buying brand new cars.

Dayem, he could have done endless amounts with that loan he's taken out, which makes it incredibly hilarious! ..... an actual sports car or something etc.

Anyway, Kitchster_uk portrayed my views quite nicely - some of his post was making me lol xD

I love this 'ooh, S plate, must be an old banger' mentality some people have. very sad tbh, and more ignorant and uninformed to be ultimately fair. Why am I not worried about my 'banger'? Is that because I did some research into the costs, reliability and the biggest pitfalls? I chose one with higher mileage to have one with the cooling system replaced. As I said though, their choice and good luck to him buying the car in the opening post and as they say, a fool and his money are easily parted.

In general, people have a problem with scenarios like this - buying a fairly poor cars for massive money. Good idea would be something like this - It is more saleable in 3 years as well. It's just better in every way. If you're going to be a plate snob, you might was well be a badge snob. IT's better looking and will probably be at least as effecient and much much better built.

What made you think I was refering to your car, I my self drive a 20 year old car as a daily which runs 16mpg and expensive parts. I don't have anything against bangernomics, but some people would sooner buy new and not have the worry about an old car and potential problems.

And whats with the whole snob thing, do you buy 2nd hand tvs and clothes so as not to appear snobbish?

Yes I do buy 2nd hand TV's, but not to not appear snobbish. I have no problem with people who buy new stuff like tv's and cars, I do have a problem with people who have to have a brand new corated in council house chique, a MASSIVE telly that not only looks stupid but is poor quality, bought on finance and was purchased just to say 'Look at my 50" telly...'. The same goes with cars, it is not an issue with me to spend £20k, £30k or even £100k of your hard-earned on a nice new car. Buying a turd of an Astra on mega-finance just because it's new is lunacy.

My Aunt is one of these who buys a new Corsa, every 3 years, because it's 'new' and old cars aren't reliable. She knows this as her last Corsa had 20k on the clock and the engine management light was on, probably due to it doing 4 miles a day max.

I really dislike these people who have to prove their worth by financing it - they are frauds in my mind. The same people are often those who, if you've been to Tenerife they've been to Eleven-erife with their solid gold suitcases.
