Card Testing

Hi

Half Life 2 and FEAR are both quite system intensive so I'd try them. I'd also try whacking the detail levels up to stress the card to see if you can see any artifacts

You might see the same artifacts in 3D Mark as in your games so this is why I suggested looking for them. It might be a card issue or a game issue

You say that your other PCs are low spec but if they still have an AGP slot I'd try it in there. This would be another indication as to whether it's a card problem or an incompatibility with your PC

Hi

I don't have either of those 2 games neither do any of my friends,is there any others?

The only thing i can seem to think maybe the problem is AA because when i select higher settings in the game it starts to use AA and that is when i seem to get problems. Is it possible to use the setting for AA in 3Dmark 06? Just that when i try to it just comes up with a box saying Send error report.

I will try it in another pc as soon as i get the chance and see what happens.

Perhaps try Doom III or FarCry? Basically anything graphically intensive that'll test your graphics card to its limit. You can always try the demos of HL2 and FEAR

This shouldn't happen - you should be able to select AA in your drivers and 3D Mark will run as normal. AFAIK if you have the paid for version you can select it within the program

If the problem is AA this would point to driver issues but you've tried a selection of drivers. I get the feeling that we're going around in circles as often happens when trying to diagnose computer problems :)

Let me know!

How do i go about doing this?

I do have FarCry and will test it later.I did have a problem with FarCry when i first got my card but there was a patch which solved that.Could it possibly be a DirectX problem? I have 9.0c is there a way to overwrite and install over the top to be sure?

Well i tried FarCry and it was ok.

I still need to know how to go about doing this as i can't find out anywhere.

Hi

You can try install DX9 over the top of itself - it shouldn't do any harm

The option to globally enable AA in your nVidia drivers should be available through the Display Properties section in the Control Panel.

Right click on the Desktop and select "Properties". Click on the "Settings" tab then click "Advanced". There should be a tab there called "3D" or similar. Alternatively there could be an nVidia tab and you can select this from the list on the left (working from memory as I have an ATI card). In this section you can set your Anti-Aliasing to a specific level instead of leaving it on Application Preference

Hi,
Well i enabled it in the nvidia control panel and i think it was ok.When running 3D mark 06 is it normal that it is very jerky or should it be smooth?

Hi

It's normal that it'll be jerky. 3D Mark tests the limit of todays fastest hardware, that is SLI'd 7900s and Crossfired X1900XTs so on standard hardware it'll be very slow, especially with AA & AF

Ok thanks ajgoodfellow i will try and swap the card in to my other pc today to see if that makes any difference.

Well i fianally got round to try my card in another pc yesterday but when i opened up the pc i found that the screw that holds the vid vard in place was loose.I took out the card and then reseated it and put the screw back in securely and tried the game again and so far everything seems to be ok.Looks like it might have just been the loose connection.

Thanks for all your help ajgoodfellow i will let you know if the problem has totally gone as soon as. :D ;)
