Carling Cup Football. Yes, Spoilers...

Vela's goal was classy, very class but he didn't have the best game overall. I don't think he's quite ready to start for us in the Premiership, certainly away from home anyway, but he's getting closer and closer.

Exactly, I'd fear the same thing would happen to him as Reyes, he's just get kicked.

He'll be a real talent, but you can't just throw players of this age in to the first XI. If they don't perform, fans get on their backs, their confidence suffers and you could but them back in their development

You are of course entitled to your opinion, but some of the stuff you post borders on the insane. Anyone who thinks RvP > Bergkamp rarely has a valid opinon I'm afraid.

yup anyone who genuinely believes that should step onto the next blue bus immediately, RvP will never reach Bergkamps level ....few do.

watching him on tv doesn't do justice, i couldn't believe how fast the kid can move and the quality of his touch......that chip was really sublime.

Thought Wilshere looked very composed tonight, seems to just have that way of creating space for himself on the ball. He moves the ball round the opponent to make room for the pass without even trying; for want of a less outrageous name I'd say it is somewhat reminiscent of Zidane (no, I'm not suggesting he should be 'mentioned in the same breath' as Zidane - just that that's the type of movement I'm thinking of). Would definitely make an able deputy for Fabregas.

Vela seems to have deceptive pace, there were a couple of balls I thought he had no chance of getting to but he managed it. Although to be fair the likes of Bramble and Boyce probably aren't the quickest.

As for Fabianski, I was a little disappointed as while last season he looked pretty shaky, in pre-season and the couple of games I've seen him this campaign he seemed very solid. He's went back to being hit-and-miss tonight and that isn't want you want in a keeper.

Good attacking performance tonight, a bit ropey at the back at times though. Was very impressed with the physicality of most of our team, jumping straight up from very hard challenges and not afraid to get stuck in themselves. In particular i think Wilshere, Ramsay and Vela were a different level. Absolutely superb and surely not far off more first team appearences. Simpson won me over a little bit tonight, seemed a lot more clinical than i've seen him before and he is very very quick, it was great to see him and Vela running at the defenders and stretching them all over the place. We've lacked genuine pace up front since Henry left but these 2 aren't far off that speed.

Velas goal was sex :D.

None of them would be in the first XI with a fully fit squad, with maybe only 2/3/4 of them on the bench.

Good result.

Bit of a moot point as I think it's around 3 years (?) since Arsenal were able to field their first choice side, but now that you have 7 subs I would have Fabianski and Wilshere on the bench.
Obviously Wenger would probably have Song in there too, but not me.

As long as Rosicky is in the team we will never play our first XI, he had another operation yesterday. I wouldn't be surprised if he retires.

Just reading about it now and it truely is saddening. Henry liked him on the left, and I remember the Frenchman saying he could eventually fill Pires' boots. If you recall his heydays, then that's quite a complement. I think he did play last season, and it was Rosicky, Fabregas, Flamini and Hleb. That's an awesome midfield and it's a pity we never really saw much more of it.

I have got to say if he doesn't play before this calender year is out then he's got to go. For all the talk that Wenger has given us about wage structure, I really think it's nonsense to keep somebody on the books who's given so little back.

Random thing to ask and always wondered this but surely they have insurance against these kind of things?

I don't know. I know players can get insurance for themselves (or their body parts lol).

If they're outside a club's sphere of control we've seen e.g. Newcastle sue and win I think. When players do things outside I've not really seen if anything can be done about it. I remember e.g. freak injuries happening to players and clubs not being able to do sod all about it.

What I'd do [CHAIRMAN MODE]is wait till the end of the year, if as said above Rosicky doesn't play, cancel his contract or ask if he'll take a massive paycut. Then somehow arrange a testamonial and give him a lump sum that'd constitute the remainder of his contract. I'm sure both club and player could be happy with that [/CHAIRMAN MODE]

It's a shame about Rosicky but he has to be sold to any mugs that will pay money for him. He's a world class player but he's just never fit and even if Wenger announced he'd be fit for January, who can honestly say they'd be confident of him staying fit beyond a couple of games?

I don't think I've said the word 'fit' enough in this post so far so I'll say it again. Fit.

You can't really claim Rosicky is still our first choice left mid though, can you? Even if he ever got fit again, he's been out so long, he wouldn't be guaranteed a start for some time I'd have thought. Especially now we've actually signed a direct replacement in Nasri.

We played our first choice XI against Porto.

De Ridder should play more often for Wigan. He looked head and shoulders above the rest of the team. His tricks actually seemed to be effective too

He won't play this year. He has a few weeks before he starts training, and then needs to get match fit

He got past the inexperienced defenders quite often but not once was his final cross/pass any good at all. Very poor end product.

Eboue didn't start:confused:

If the whole squad was 100% fit he'd start, ergo he is in the frist XI:p Nasri replaced Hleb really.

yes, Wenger out, he's not really in charge of the youth team besides, afaik, choosing who to buy and even then he's got scouts looking he decides. The fact is the first team can't play like that, the choice and balance of the first team isn't there, and there are clearly players in that team playing better than those in our first team and Wenger refuses to pick them.

Seems Rice, other coaches can get that kind of performance out of our reserves but Wenger can't get that out of the first team or anything even close.

The LEGEND Liam Brady said:
Brady believes Wenger deserves much of the credit for the brilliance of Arsenal's youngsters.

He explained: "I think the advantage for them at Arsenal is that the manager is keen to work with the young players.

"Particularly in international weeks he will have these young players over there training and instilling this confidence that so many of Arsene Wenger's players have.
