Carrick Out?

I’m a bit irritated with this narrative that’s coming out in the news that it’s all the players and the executives fault. Carrick is simply not good enough, and his poor coaching has accelerated all the other issues. He should never have been put in this position, but he didn’t say no either and went ahead with the stuff that’s been gone over before like the lack of fitness training, pressing and so on. He’s not blameless at all. The way it’s carrying on it’s like he’s being portrayed as the second coming of Sir Alex Ferguson and everyone around him is letting him down…

No news yet, does this mean they're sticking with him?

Or they're getting the statements ready still

Also now touted that we’d have to pay Newcastle up to £6m for Howe… so that’s him out of the frame, I suspect.

Of course, Wilcox and co would have known this months ago… right? Riiiiight? Due diligence and all that before they’d selected Carrick? Right? Riiiiight?

Talk of the Devils (Whitwell and Mitten) going live in a minute, but it sounds like they aren't sure what's going on either.

I suspect they might just announce it in the morning now... it's very odd though. God knows.

If they need to pay Newcastle compensation for Howe, we might as well go for Emery. As if he’d be interested though.

I know there are differences, but I'm shocked that clubs hesitate to spend £20m~ to get a manager given they're typically more important than any single player, and they'll happily pay £50-60m for pretty average players.

Whitwell doesn't sound very sure to me, but if they don't announce something first thing in the morning, you'd expect him to take training as normal. In theory, anyway.

I don't see how he can stay on. He's lost the players now too and we'll slide into a relegation battle on current performances. That can't be allowed to happen.

Mental that. We’ll sack you and sever all ties but claim £6m if someone hires you.

That can’t be legally enforceable surely!

Howe wasn't sacked either, it was a mutual sort of thing.

Perhaps that'll work in Nagelsmann's favour...

It's pretty common to have a timed "non-compete" in a severance package. Howe will have signed it as part of his pay off hence why we haven't seen him resurface.

Eddie howe is not the right person for the job.
Get Nagelsmann and spend big in January, don't care how much extra they need to spend.

Why is Nagelsmann better? The EPL is not the Bundesliga and Howe has a really good record in the EPL. He might not be the long term solution but who is?

They need to spend regardless of the manager.

Not having a pop at you ProStreet but I think a lot of Untied fans are delusional/confused/blind to reality. There is no quick fix here and it's an impossible job. Who can succeed when the issues stem from the top down?

To be honest I don't think anyone is blind to reality, but it's not an impossible job either, just a very complicated one.

Nagelsmann is a more intriguing appointment with a higher potential ceiling than Howe, I think, but I haven't personally been impressed with him either. + he seems a bit of a tool.

Conte would be better than both of them IMO, and throw the kitchen sink at transfers.

I know what you mean, but unfortunately though, the top part of the club won’t change any time soon, so the only thing we can really have a proper opinion on is what manager may/may not work in the current circumstances we find ourselves in.

I think for me it is:

1. Conte
Just very curious at seeing him in action with our quality of players, Rashford will cry and Dalot may never resurface again. :D

2. Nagelsmann
An unknown for me. Could be a stroke of genius, but the situation could just completely overwhelm him and he resigns.

3. Howe
Safe, may help get us to a reasonable level before we move on to a more exciting / quality manager in the long run. But I can’t get excited about it and it sets the tone of us being a ‘mid-table club’ rightly or wrongly as we are that in reality these days, at least performance and squad-wise.

Not going to happen

Emery
Would be the best to bring in. But will never happen.

Pochettino
Have a soft spot for the guy, think he’d be a good signing.

Glasner
I think he’d genuinely work, just a gut feeling, but no chance.
