Carrick Out?

Ducker saying crisis talks happening today, that as of last night they still hadn't decided. The incompetence is just staggering.
I remember the days when crisis talks would have happened if we'd have won 4 out of the first 8.

It is staggering - Either come out and back the manager OR sack the manager - it's business 101........

It's so bad/embarrassing now.... It's cringeworthy

I'll get flamed for this but.....

It feels that way but I do have some sympathy with the position.

At what point does a slow start become a full blown crisis. At what point do you give up on implementing a new play style? How long do you give players to bed in? Having failed with the last two coach appointments when do you admit to three in a row when only 4 months ago you were convinced he was the guy. I'd rather focus on the decision to award the job in the first place which most people even Michael's mates thought was probably a stretch. That's where the real incompetence lies. They had a load of time to evaluate that decision. They had time to evaluate the alternatives when there was no pressure on them. They even took that time rather than rushing into it before the end of the season. Yet they still messed it up.

Now it is a full blown crisis. We've one 2 matches all season. Form and quality of play is relegation standard and it looks like the players have given up, again. Beat Bournemouth and all of a sudden you are 3 points off 5th and crisis is averted. The problem is that we are really relying on luck to beat anyone because the team has regressed so badly. The passing triangles have vanished, the defensive errors have increased and two of the leaders in the tea have called out the coach and the board. It feels like time stands still from a fan perspective but this has all happened in a 2 week period. The decline is scary fast.

Personally I'm more concerned that they get the right decision here rather than do it speedily. If Ratcliffe has any sense he gets rid of Wilcox. However, that potentially delays the manager decision. Wilcox is the football powerbroker. However, to back another of his decisions on a coach would be suicidal for Ratcliffe so he's better to sack him and ask Vivell to step up and recruit a new coach. He's also be advised to not go with Howe as I think that appointment will stink of Wilcox and from what I can tell it's not one that inspires the fans. Therefore they are better to take a bit of time now to ensure they get the next step as one that the supporters can get behind.

Carrick still has to go, I can't see anyway back for him and rightly so as you cannot just be a fan and coach Man United but I'd prefer that they do all the dirty laundry at once and at least offer some hope of change rather than just getting someone in that's available because the current one is broken. Of course, the club has proven to be fairly tone deaf so likely that Wilcox stays, Howe comes in and Vivell leaves.

Well he not been sacked in the morning :p

To be fair, its come out of nowhere. How could the club be expected to prepare for such an unexpected event. Its not like the writing has been on the wall for months at this point and that they will surely have gone through the analysis and vetting of almost certainly a similar crop of managers over the summer before choosing Carrick.

I understand that. Just had a feeling he would walk after yesterdays lap of honour.

Well, he's at Carrington now so presumably some discussions will be had this afternoon in addition to the game being played.

I do think the fan reaction has caught the board off guard and unsettled them. Berrada/Wilcox don't want criticism, bless them.

There's some right muppets on BBC HYS regarding if Carrick should stay or leave. Some are saying he should stay, and we should get rid of player x, y, z (either not good enough, or terrible attitude).

The last time I checked, we can't just get rid of players due to a plethora of reasons. 1) contracts 2) depends on who wants to buy them, at what price and do they meet the players wage demands and 3) window isn't open.

Sure, you can get rid of these players over time, but time we don't have as this combination of players + Carrick has proven to deliver relegation form.

Never underestimate just how thick the average person is and how many football fans are thicker than that. If this was some no name manager with no association with United these same people would be saying the manager doesn't understand the United way or the pashun you need for the job. They will magically think the players are fine if the next manager turns things around for a while.
