Carrick signs until 2014... and it isn't with another club

Erm explain? Again since singing with United he's been fundamental in 3 title wins and the Champions League (remember his two goals against Roma for instance)

He's never been the first name on the team sheet for Manchester United and his England career has been one of disappoint. When he was at Spurs he was truly outstanding and showed the potential to be an even greater player. Carrick appeared to be well worth the £18.6mil Manchester United paid for him. Sadly, he peaked at age 24.

Seems so many people on this forum don't remember anything past 5 days

He played for Spurs less than 5 days ago? Is that why I still remember him at White Hart Lane?

Wow you couldn't be more wrong if you tried

Firstly for his first 3 years yes he was one of the first names
On the team sheet especially in the midfield position

Secondly in those 3 seasons he showed a lot more than he ever did at Spurs, his only memorable moment there being that run against Arsenal

3 years ago debates were going on from United fans arguing that Carrick was better than Alonso that shows you the kind of form he was in then.

Oh gawd yeah fully agreed, Fletcher will not be winning anything for his passing but much like G Neville, whilst not being the most gifted of footballers, they're pure never say die attitude cannot be bought.

The United fans that constantly **** off Carrick and Fletcher and always want them replaced with 'flavour of the month' would soon realise what they do if they wasn't there.

Can't believe a UTD fan would say that. Fletcher is a talentless hack, literally, foul people in tough games, anyone can do that, professional footballer, or a pet monkey, fouling people doesn't take skill.

Comparing him to Neville, my word, NEville PHYSICALLY wasn't gifted, he's small he had no pace, but to say Neville relied purely on his never say die attitude.

Over the entire course of the premier league he's been one of the top 5-10 best crossers in the entire league, Beckham was NOTHING without Neville, those two had the best quality right wing partnership the league has ever really seen, his passing is fantastic, he ran the overlap brilliantly, he had an simply superb cross, he could pass well, he could tackle, he read the game better than most people in the league which covered for his lack of pace, his positioning was superb.

Fletcher can barely pass, barely cross, barely tackle, barely read the game, his positioning isn't great his shooting is pathetic, as you said pretty much the entire basis of his game is constantly trying hard. He's still completely rubbish, Carrick, also pretty poor.

Honestly as a Utd fan you should be embarassed to compare them, its like me saying Denilson is good for the same reasons Dixon/Lauren/Cole/anyone else in the squad. Neville was one of Utd's, the leagues and the countries best players in the past 15 years, Fletcher, lol, Fletcher would like pretty well suited if he moved to a Championship side full of hard tackling foulers and not look out of place.

I know it's fashionable to question Sir Alex Ferguson's judgement but do you honestly think that someone with no useful abilities would manage to be a first team choice for Man Utd for a good number of seasons. Sure they may be played for a year or two and then held as backup if they can't be sold but they don't tend to stick around as a first team player for multiple years. He's never going to be the most skilful of players but you do sometimes need a player who'll do the dirty work, the "water carrier" as Didier Deschamps was famously labelled and while he's not in that class he isn't all that bad either.

Would be weird signing a Liverpool player but at least Reina isn't the badge kissing sort, and my major memory of him at Liverpool will always be picking the ball out of the net after O'Shea scored. :p

Can someone explain to DM that I ignore him purely for the fact he hasn't got a clue wtf he is on about.

Spot on, and it's these fans that in the summer we saying we should have been signing James bloody Milner. Bet they wanted Stephen Ireland as well :p

To be fair Ireland had a really decent season two seasons ago, and at the time he was exactly what Utd needed (we were really feeling the loss of Hargreaves at the time imo)

Admittedly Ireland has never hit those heights (or even close to them) since

I would love a playmaker to be signed in the summer - and I would prefer one with experience (22/23 kind of age) who can step into the 1st team straight away rather than one who needs one or two seasons to get used to the league (I just hope SAF doesnt hope Anderson will be that person right now - as Im not sure about his consistancy yet)

wouldn't want a player off liverpool directly tbh.

You must be diluded if you cant see how good Reina is , whatever his origins. I dont believe it could ever happen, but if it does that would be a major coup for SAF and Utd.

There are other keepers out there. I'm not commenting on his ability. More that I think it's a bit poor to take a player from your rivals when things aren't going so well. I know how annoyed i'd be if they signed one of our best players.

Wouldn't call it a coup considering he has a 20mil BO clause and we can't do bugger all about it if he wants to go i guess.
That'd be United sorted for the next 10 years if he goes there :(

It would be a coup for several reasons imo

1) The inter -club relationship being as difficult as it is (to put it mildly)

2) The Heinze deal that never came off a few years ago in the opposite direction

3) Reina is one of the best goalies in the EPL - possibly even top 5 in the world, on this alone its a coup (irrelevant of you losing him, there are still a number of other clubs he could go to who can afford that fee with ease)

Very few who are his age (or younger) and yet completely proven in Europe and the EPL. De Gae looks promising but would be a risk in the EPL, Neuer is even more promising imo but I still think likely to end up at Bayern (even given the fans vocal disquiet at the weekend ) - and I would think thats one of the BEST ways to get players, a plus for your team and a huge hole for their team all in one handy package hahaha. Chelsea tried it with Veron , actually got in ahead of us with Ballack. They wouldnt hesitate to try with the shoe on the other foot

So any word on how much Carrick is on?

Great for Fergie to reward one of our worst players of the season with a new contract, perhaps Gibson should be made captain?

Pretty mininam from what I remember (comparative obviously) - I think around £70k/week

The whole team were pretty attrocious today - I think its harsh just to blame it on the player usually asked to be defensive mid (given that Nani gifted them a goal, instead of getting anywhere near getting Utd one)

Think a mod needs to close this thread otherwise it's just going to turn into a Carrick bashing thread every week like Sham right on quo has proved

Maybe he deserves it, not the contract, i mean a thread bashing him.

I cant remember many things he did well today, but i can remember him being directly involved in at least 2 of their goals. Nice.

Does that mean we can start a thread bashing you as well because god only knows you deserve it as well
