Carrick signs until 2014... and it isn't with another club

Thats already been done. but you give me what grounds that i deserve this and ill tell you if i think its justified or not?

Im not exactly a fickle mind changer am i? ive stated my opinions pretty clearly and for some time and its only now, 2 years 2 late that people are actually waking up and realising that you know what? i have a point.

I wouldn't allow the ink to dry on the document!

We need 2 new quality midfielders to go along with Fletcher & Anderson, Scholes/Carrick are both finished imo.

Is Fletcher any good? I'm not a Man United fan and don't watch them all that often, but from what I have seen he doesn't seem that amazing.

No Keane or Viera from what I have seen.

Ill quote the suns review of carrick for you all.

Dreadful first half, shocking the rest. 4 out of 10.

I just wasn't sure if they were talking about the Liverpool game or the season so far.

You're right Fletcher isn't a Keane or a Viera but then again few players are. He's "just" a pretty solid reliable midfielder who'll always give his best, never going to be one of the greats and I'm sure he'd be the first to admit it but dependable and that's valuable in its own way.

I agree with SPW, although Fletcher can do enough both on and off the ball to occasionally 'wow'; succinctly he's a bit more than 'reliable', but a bit less than one of our best.

I have no problem with either Fletcher or Carrick being in the squad. First team I'm not so sure but I'd keep Fletcher over Carrick at the moment, the thing Carrick used to be very good at was mopping up the defence, you'd not see him sliding in or anything but his positional awareness and ability to play a simple pass contributed greatly to our excellent defensive record. Now his head has gone for some reason.

If Scholes, Hargreaves and (please) Gibson go this summer, I'd happily take one world class, ready midfielder, one potentialy great one and a goalkeeper as our summers signings.

Put an experienced creative player next to Carrick and he will do well, the problem at the moment is he is asked to do majority of Scholes' running as well as mop up infront of the defence and he cant do both!! (This isnt my theory, just one I read somewhere after the Chelsea match)

Personally I would go for a naturally left sided wide/attacking player and creative /offensive midfielder with a gk. I think with the retirees and OH leaving on a free we have some decent prospects (like Pogba and Cleverly to name a few) who can get squad numbers, and some cup games while being available for sub appearances to see how they do in EPL games for us (instead of your "potentially great" player)

Preferably one of those midfielders is a good dead ball player also (which is pretty desperately needed given how many free-kicks/ corners are wasted)

My potentially great is Rodwell to be honest, I'd take him even with Cleverley and Pogba coming through, with Giggs on his way out soon as well we'd have the space. You could also drop Rodwell back if you were in a real pinch.

I agree with FrankJH, I think Carrick is being asked to do all the running in the midfield as Scholes legs have gone. I'm surprised united didn't go with Fletcher against us on Sunday, as we constantly had runners from midfield getting free.

I think if you paired Carrick with a top class and younger midfielder, you would start to see the best of him again. Would the united fans agree with that?

Well we've been linked with Rodwell for a while. He looks promising and since he can play in defence and midfield he'd be a good signing for us from a versatility point of view.

Then with Everton's financial status it might not take as much to buy him as Everton would ideally like for him.

I watched the game on Sunday and I was wondering why Scholes was getting so close to our goal at times. We need him to save himself for attacking or at least starting them off. I would have thought it was Carrick's responsibility to get back and defend then pass the ball to Scholes to let him start an attack. I'm not the greatest tactician so I accept someone could easily come along and tear that thinking to shreds. :D

I think so too. I don't think it has to be someone younger necessarily, just a top midfielder we can give the job of starting attacks and passing the ball to the striker so that Carrick can get on with what he does knowing he doesn't have to cover for his colleague in the centre of midfield. Disclaimer above applies. :p

Carrick has never been a runner although that is being asked of him nowadays. His better games have come when Anderson is in there with him. I really hope that Ferguson bites the bullet and goes with Nani & Tony V as wingers with Carrick and a Fletcher/Anderson combo in the middle. Not ideal but our midfield is completely unbalanced at the moment

Nani probably out for 3 matches ( Arsenal - FA Cup, Marseille - CL, Bolton - EPL, all at OT) being reported in a few places

If " Tony V" can get a run out against Arsenal , if he isnt fit enough to start of course, hopefully he will get a start against Marseille, but I think Utd will really struggle against the French side without any naturally wide players (no one mention Bebe or Orbertan please lol)

Probably optimistic to hope for the above after so long out but I would hope to at least see him get a few minutes in both matches

Even at the age Scholes is at, doesn't he still do everything Carrick can do but better? Looking from the outside, I'd say a CM pairing of Scholes + Anderson is Utd's strongest, with Fletcher coming in if you decided to play 3 in the middle.
