Carrying something for self defence

C'mon GD, six pages and no suggestion of the biggest marital aid you can find online? Ideal for home defence and no excuse needed to keep at the bed side. You just wave it at the intruder screaming 'I'm not afraid to use this' and throw some lube at them. Being naked is optional but can increase shock and awe factor (in some cases).

Lol :D

We're trying to help the OP in his job as a security guard, not get him sacked/arrested!!

Would be amusing, though...!!

BJJ is about as effective as martial arts come tbh.
Most martial arts have the same said about them.
Thing is, even if it is any good, it usually takes years of practice to become that good.
Most people know how to swing a stick and a few basic lessons help immeasurably with that.

Possibly, nobody died in that one though. As always, the facts of the case are key and people should be wary about assuming to much.

Oh hey i meant to ask actually what is the genuine legality of those "legal" self defence sprays which are really high powered cans of non toxic identifier (red paint like in dye packs in money).

Was thinking if they are actually genuinly legal might be worth grabbing one for my friend as shes still haveing issues with her ex husband.

If only for proving 100% without a doubt he broke the restrsining order by being bright red lol

Going back to the actual question in the OP the only thing you'd be able to carry as a weapon that won't lose you your job/licence is a torch.

if its a metal place he could just keep the pipe that the guy picked u pan threatened him with and say he picked it up off the ground :P

martial arts are good in the gym.

most real fights are messy un-rehearsed.as the stab video shows.you black belt whatever martial artist you going to be seriously hurt.

you are not in the matrix.:p

Legal as they don't contain anything deemed to be noxious.

There's no case law on them, but I doubt it would be ruled illegal. The law says it can't be "noxious" and so if it's there purely to mark someone then it should be legal.

A good tip for women... hairspray.

"I carry hairspray in my purse because I like to keep my hair looking good..... OH NO AN ATTACKERZ0Z0Z0Z"

;)

A squeezy bottle of extra hot chilli sauce in your pocket because you never know when you might fancy a kebab on your break?

Cool theyre all non toxic and dont damage the eyes but obviously getting it in your eyes is gonna make everytjing blurry for a bit plus it being blood red should add to confusion.

Just thinking jts a few seconds disorientation to scream at the top her lungs and run.

And then afterwars when the police go to speak to him hes painted bright red it shluld be good evidence lol.

I'll lick one up anyway and get the officer who does her case to give it the once over.

Mate in the ta said i could have one of thier cans of mace from riot training but thats definitly illegal :p

TBH if i was OP and work was not paying me to handle these guys, they can take all they want, i would just report it. Not worth getting into a tumble with people desperate enough to steal scrap for cash, especially for work and especially so if it is not your responsibility.

Not relevant to OP:

I am pretty safe when it comes to walking the street.

I work in an affluent area which is populated mainly by elderly people and boat owners. I have not seen a chav in this town in the handful of years i have worked here. In fact, the closest thing to trouble in this town was when i saw Craig Charles getting loud after a couple of drinks in the pub round the corner.

Outside of work i go from wearing a 2/3 piece suit to wearing a band T, skinny jeans and a leather jacket. I am a bloke who is young-ish and mixed race. Outside work i seem like someone who is either not worth robbing or fit into the stereotypes of older people as a mugger.

No need to carry anything round :D

It can be legally carried but arguing you used the weapon as a final resort will be hard when its main purpose is to be carried for self defence. If evidence does not point to you using it as an appropriately measured response, then it being marketed as a self defence weapon will work against you.

Nope. It can be legally carried everywhere, even onto a plane.

Yes it can be legally carried anywhere but when youve used it and if it goes to court it will be brought up that you may have used excesive force by beating them with something marketed "to hit as hard as a steel bar"

The law isnt a complete ass if you check the link above if something is intended as a weapon its a weapon doesnt matter what it actually physically resembles or any other use

That thing is marketed specifically as a weapon

You must not get a product which is made or adapted to cause a person injury. Possession of such a product in public (and in private in specific circumstances) is against the law.

The biggest problem with people taking martial arts is that it breeds over confidence. Unless you're at the very top or at least pretty competent, your few lessons on Karate is not going to get you anywhere but in trouble.

When I was younger I used to have the attitude of just charge in head first as most will then think sod this and go, that said it got me a couple of nasty kicking's.

Nowadays unless you have no option, either calling the police or walking away are far less hassle, less dangerous and generally the better option. I also never understand why people carry something on them permanently, do you really worry that much about it? I've never been or seen someone being randomly attacked in the street, most have been drunken punch ups.
