It's not about being convinced I'm right, I know I'm right, and the following is what I'm right about.
1) The number one killer in western society today is Heart disease.
Can't argue with that one.
2) The number one reason why so many people are getting heart disease is becuase of meat in their diets.
No, it is because of high levels of fat and low levels of exercise. Plenty of very healthy people eat plenty of meat and don't suffer from heart disease.
3) The meat industry as a whole causes the most destruction upon the environment above any other industry in the world.
4) The meat industry causes the highest amount of global warming above any other industry in the world.
Quite subjective really as it is actually very hard to quantify "environmental damage". Generating electricity is probably right up there after all. Not to mention that "the meat industry" generally means farming and quite a bit of that damage would be there even if we all went vegie.
5) The meat industry slaughters millions upon millions of animals every year.
Pretty much a given, it is after all the purpose of the industry. However the animals would not exist at all if the industry didn't exist.
6) There are still many cases where these animals are not kept in healthy conditions.
Which is why it is better to buy meat from better sources. UK meat for example has much higher animal welfare legislation. A lot of it also comes down to your personal thoughts on animals. Personally I see food animals as there to provide a purpose and so do not expect them to live the pampered life a pet does.
You can tell me whatever you like, but nothing you can say can make me believe that meat in this day and age is needed and that the negatives it has on our environment and health are worthwhile trade off's just so people can enjoy the taste of meat when you can survive without it perfectly fine.
And I happen to disagree with you. I really do like the taste of meat and do not find your reasons compelling enough to give up.
