Catalyst 10.6 Released

Admittedly the only snag I encountered when I briefly went from 10.4 to 10.5 was problems with idle clocks (I like mine to run low). Seems a fair few folk have had the odd issue with these so I haven't even bothered. Might give 'em a try next week some time.

Ermm, my post was removed? why?

I clearly stated an my opinion of the drivers in a non biased fashion based on the Hardware I use

Installed tonight, gained over 2000 GPU points in Vantage on my 5970 (22,343 to 24,756). Unfortunatly that was the end of the good news. BC2 frames are Half- at best. Far cry 2 runs ridiculous (the frames are in he "20's" on some points (FROM 70+) DIRT2 never ran well on my system (for whatever reason, see spec in sig) but my Avg 48 frames were reduced to 33:confused: - and with stutter (happy birthday to you too 10.6)

Crysis, however actaullly runs better (done several tests- with min/max/avg) with Warehead "about the same"

Now if only these vantage gains can be "game-converted".....

used 10.4,10.5,10.5a,10.6 all in the last few weeks with eyefinity 5040x1050 (I think) BFBC2 and a few others. No problems.

If I have more then one monitor plugged or O/C in idle core goes to 400.

I use GPU observer from here to keep an eye on it.

Edit: forgot to mention, on a single 5870, and did a safemode driver cleanup

No problems here with single 5870. I always uninstall the old drivers before installing new ones. Not sure if thats what makes the difference.

WOW, i played that nvidia youtube link on my 9.8 drivers and my cpu was 100%. I just installed the new ones, restarted and now my cpu usage is about 3%. BRILLIANT. I was getting very frustrated with flash as it always used 100% cpu... Im on a 2.4ghz c2d @ 3.2ghz e6600. Playing 1080p videos on vlcplayer used no where near that though.

This however
http://chia-anime.chatango.com/

still uses 100% of my cpu, annoying.

Having a few issues with dxva with these drivers - visiting youtube whilst also playing vlc 1.1rc4 seemed to cause a hang. I had a similar problem last night but I'm not sure what caused that.

Only annoying thing i've found about these drivers is that because now flash video IS now accelerated when you go to watch a youtube video it causes the screen to flash as the card speeds up to decode the video.

I see 64bit driver is more stable than 32 bit, of course you must run Windows 64bit. I run Windows 7 64bit, never problem in driver from 10.3 to 10.6 now! With 32bit Windows before (Vista, windows 7), some time "GPU recove"r error appear.

If you have more 4GB RAM and don't have many soft must run Windows 32 bit, then go to Windows 7 64bit!
