Catalyst 10.6 Released

So general consensus is this driver set resembles human faeces?

I would not go that far as it looks more like a mixed bag of results ... will help some folk and hinder others it seems and YMMV !!!

I installed over 10.5 and all seemed well with no apparent installation issues, however putting the 5870 in for tri-fire cause the CCC panel to not appear and I can't enable CrossfireX so that IS an issue with the driver management software ...

One thing I noticed regarding driver performance is that in EyeFinity Dirt2 and Unigine appears to now be stutter free for me on my 5970 (can't test on trifire though!) setup so something has changed and that is a real improvement IMHO as well as crysis performance increases (still lower min fps though - ???) ...

So the only game that has issues with 10.6 is BFBC2

Is that just for crossfire configurations?

Can anyone confirm that their single card is running this game no problems?

I cant believe they havent tested this stuff out!

I would rather they skip a month and release stable proper drivers, than just making a mockery out of their customers and the WHQL quality assurance!

The last few releases have been really shoddy, it seems like Q+A has gone right out of the window and they just wait for public feedback.

I think half the problem is the ATI driver team is kept to strict-ish deadlines, they have to release a new driver set every month and personally I think in the days of crossfire, tri-frie, quad fire, eyefinity, DX11, multiple different chipsets and more and more games coming out it’s putting undue pressure on people which is causes it’s own problems. I would much rather wait 6 to 8 weeks (with hot fixes for obvious problems) between full driver releases if it meant they were stable and had fewer problems

The 10.6's seem fine on my single 4650 (although no gaming has been done), but on my main gaming machine with a 3870x2, the 10.6's are the worst drivers Iv seen!

Completely broken my BFBC2 experience!

Jerky when in the loading screen, flashing black screens with just the blue objective markers (I can still hear people etc) etc etc etc......

The 10.5 are great tho with my 3870x2, they fixed all the problems with the previous drivers.

Im an ATI fan, and have been set my heart on a 6870 when/if it gets realsed, but this is making me think Green.

updated my game system last night, running a single 4870, and it works fine, no delays, no lag, loaded fraps and fps looked okay.

Installed over 10.5's yesterday night, looks to be running great, haven't tried out flash 10.1 video acceleration yet, wish they did make firestream useable though like cuda, for video encoding or conversion or how coreavc uses it for MKV playback.

Installed straight over old ones, no blue screen, everything seems fine and ETW,NTW, JC2 and crysis all play fine, maybe even a little better than before.

Crashing in AvP and like people have already said runs hotter in the desktop. Back to 10.4. Makes you wonder what ATI are doing with the last couple of driver sets.

Uninstalled 10.5 with CCC, rebooted, installed 10.6s.

Every fullscreen game (i.e. crossfire enabled) resulted in flickering, minimising and maximising the game multiple times automatically before finally failing and BSOD.

Windows 7 - 64bit 2x5850 in crossfire.

uninstalled 10.5 driver sweeped in safe mode (also never had a problem using driver sweeper) rebooted installed 10.6 rebooted again and all is well.

no problems whatsoever a really good driver release BFBC 2, crysis, dirt 2 all working fine and there has been a small bump in fps in all games. im impressed with these. But then i havent had a single problem since 10.3 i must just be very lucky :)

mm not convinced so far with 10.6

can't listen to youtube videos in the background now as it adversely (quite a bit) effects frame rates of the game you are in (must by the GPU acceleration of the youtube video)

but worse than that - if that video finishes say and you have the youtube screen open with the box in the middle ready to play the video, that seems to take up some GPU time too ... certainly was play JC2 and frame rates seemed dodgey (no video playing or anything) shut down the idle youtube video page and back smooth again ....
