Catalyst 7.7 Released

I've just tried WIC Beta in DX10, 1400x1050, 4xAA/AF in game, soft shadows off, that other option to 1024, everything at high.

Resolution: 1400*1050
Detail Level: High
Average fps: 12
Min fps: 9
Max fps: 31

Same settings but DX9: (4xAA/AF), gives a 20fps hit over 0xAA/AF.
Resolution: 1400*1050
Detail Level: High
Average fps: 27
Min fps: 16
Max fps: 42

Anyone else got any results, do they look right?

Thats what I thought, in DX10 my GTS got 27fps average is 8xAA and 16xAF or maybe 8xAF cant remember, I think what I may do is do a fresh install, only have 1 OS and take the IDE drivers out and stick em in a server system or something.

AA will always kill your FPS dramatically in WIC especially with 4X, i play with no AA and it still looks mint at 1680x1050 with my nec monitor, performance with no AA is at least three fold. Its all so been acknowledged by the the developer of WIC that the game has DX10 performance issues on the ATI 2000 series and that it is being worked on.

I would do some benches in WIC but since i installed the 7.7 drivers i cant play for some memory error when loading in a map, this on xp.

i have the full version of Lost Planet Extreme Condition, in directx 9 when the menu screen appears it goes so slow like 0.52fps but in the game it runs fine (40fps).. but in directx 10 when the menu screen appears it goes like 41fps ....

any ideas whats wrong?

i will start another thread about this...

I wont be surprised if when these "performance issues on the ATI 2000 Series" are solded the performance will go up much.

I've just tried DX10 with 0x AA/AF:

Resolution: 1400*1050
Detail Level: High
Average fps: 14
Min fps: 10
Max fps: 37

I'm getting low performance than most 2900 owners in quite a few games, I can only think that this card performs beter at 1600x1000+ res and with no IDE hdd's and only 1 OS, so I'm getting rid of my IDE HDD's and only having Vista installed and overclocking my ram more.

In DX10 and DX9 mode with AA/AF enabled I get stuttering all the time, no AA/AF in DX9 and its smooth with an average fps or 37, or maybe it was 46.

same problem here

Meh, lost planet is an embarrassment in the way it has been ported to the PC, i doubt there have been any optimisation for the PC version, just capcom trying to make a quick buck with as little effort as possible and using the buzz word "DX10" to get some attention for it when in fact its all a big con.

Using these drivers on my x1900xt, and now COD2 goes at a max of 30 fps, dropping to 10 regularly when maxxed out, before it would be 60+ easily!
definately reinstalling the old ones if i can find them!

Don't think this has been posted before.

ATI Catalyst 7.7 Performance Analysis

Final Thoughts

This is one of the worst driver sets we have seen in some time. Not only did performance go nowhere on our lineup of games, but Company of Heroes actually took a small step backwards.

An even bigger issue we had with the drivers was the constant random crashing when starting COH.

We wouldn’t recommend these drivers to someone we didn’t like, we don’t know what’s going on this month but the AMD driver gods have not been nice to us.

We will keep an eye out for the 7.8s over the next four weeks and hope that AMD have decided to extract some more performance out of the HD range. The HD2600XT is so close to being the mid-range card to get when compared to the 8600GT, but it just needs a bit more performance to take it over the line.
