Catalyst 7.8 beta

Yes and no, its not as necessary, but AF still makes a worthwhile improvement, as it affects detail levels in the distance, whereas AA is sort of offering pretend resolution boosts :)

AA is a very nice extra, AF is always desirable :)

When people are at a low res like me, AA is a must I think, allthough I notice some games like Lost Planet are not very jaggy at all with 0AA, more like 2xAA-4xAA in other games.

i find a lower setting of Af on hl2 gives you a kind of depth of field effect when you are near walls.

but i also hear that AF makes little/no change to performance

First of all.

Thanks for wasting 10mb of my bandwidth (Yes I do want that 10mb back  )

There is no difference as far as I can see maybe your eyes are better than mine but I think your seeing things (or not).

Thanks for wasting my time

That is S.T.A.L.K.E.R one of the most unpredictable games performance/graphics wise In a while it wouldnt suprise me if the in game AF isn't applied properly, half the time the in built AA/Edge Smoothing dosn't activate properly.

:)

Comeone man, the difference is like night and day. If you don't see it in my shots, just load up the game by yourself to see it.And if I would use a compression format, no one would see the difference. And 10 mb, that's nothing these days :D

Something else, COJdx10 does the same, it fails to do proper AF. I think it are just early driver issues. The X2900XT drivers are still very rough.

I'll have a play about later :) . As for DX10 yes it seems that AF is not being applied properly a number of people have noticed this. DX9 is fine as far as I know. I think S.T.A.L.K.E.R is the reason tbh do you notice it in any other games, by all means report it to ATi via the link in my sig :)

Cant they make it so that AA makes little or no change in performance?

Be a few years for that I'd say. Such as when AF was a big performance killer back in the day, now there is no hit

Well, now something very positive about the 7.8 drivers, the quality adaptive perf has improved dramaticly. In Oblivion I get almost no hit when using this in dens forrests

Anyone know if theres any patch notes to go with these beta drivers, so we can see roughly what the improvements are actually meant to be, like we get each month with the proper drivers? Thought I'd ask, as whoever leaked em might also have leaked the release notes :)

I've found these have a negative effect on DiRT performance, which unfortunately is one of the main games I'm into at the moment so I've gone back to the 7.7's which were ace.

The beta testers are never given release notes im afraid. It looks like the OEM's leaked these drivers and not an actual tester.

I still feel a bit of studdering with CS source under certain maps, but omost of the maps are spot on
I no longer get random wire-frame in certain maps ( had horrible wireframe bugs, wher everything lose textures for around 1 sec in westwood with the 7.7's )

not having much luck with this beta either tbh, Has anyone noticed an increase in temps when using it ? Mine went up from 46 idle to 56 idle and it kicked the fan up a notch because of it, removed them and reinstalled 7.6 and back it goes to 46 idle again (go figure). Also it still crashes when you launch ETQW with AA/AF set in CCC just like 7.7 did.

So for now i'm sticking with 7.6's

Tom, as yoy are a beta tester, do you know if the Vista64-issue with Armed Assault has been fixed in the next release?

This is what happends, it's a know issue on the ARMA forums:

Allthough the game isn't off. supported under Vista, it worked with the first Microsoft provided Vista drivers

Some people have reported this it seems bizarre  Skinner Im not sure the best bet is to report it and I'll get one of the QA guy's to follow it up.

Yer this happens with me too, def runs hotter in games, could play wow for hours before i could start to hear the fan kicking in, and then even when it did it slowed back down after a few mins, the fan kicks in straight away now when playing, good thing is i can play with every setting at max and full aa and af (set in ccc) and fps dont drop below 60 (vsync enabled)

I'll send a ticket. Thanx anyway.

ive noticed my idle temps have risen to 51 degrees instead of 45 which it was before.

Just to let the guys on the first two pages know that i also have had very good gain in fps on s.t.a.l.k.e.r

I am using float32 mod "did not notice much of a gain with that" but now using beta 7.8 and that was an instant "ooohhhhh thats faster" lost of grass still around 60-70 fps @ 1280X1024 and other scens around 80-110.

I do think with all max out bar aa and af i never play games with those on "i do not see the point in all that".
