Catalyst 8.4

Did everything correctly, now CCC won't start, just throws up a bunch of errors.

I think ATi drivers are brilliant, but I wish they'd never bothered with CCC - it's just not worth the sodding hassle.

Rarely gives me any hassle at all. I like how fast it is in vista as well, flies open in a second. :)

I agree, as 'nice' as it is to look at, it is just an options screen, albeit hugely glorified with a 3D preview render window, I much preferred when they were built into the advanced Display options, I have a feeling they've become quite 'bloatware'-esque, and that some of it is not really necessary, and users should be able to chose a basic version of the options.

Just my 2p :)

there working fine for me but crysis benchmark wont load at all and trying to load a save from inside the game itself wont work. click all day long on it and it never does anything.

this happen for anyone else?

other games are running very nice, :/

I can't remember what it was, but part of the Vista spec required a different framework for their drivers to fit in. Thats why the CCC was rolled out a year or more before Vista getting it ready. In its first incarnation it was eleventy billion times worse than it is now, which is why you could install without it and old style should you want for quite a long time before they made the CCC basically needed. It takes a while to start up, they cut it down like hours(ok maybe not that much) from the first few versions, seems to take longer again to open these days though. But frankly it works, its simple, whats the hassel? Nvidia went from old style to new style aswell, just different.

I'd take stable ATi drivers plus CCC than any nvidia driver made in the last 2 years.

lol look at my scores

8.2 drivers - ~10768 cant remember what was the last number ;D
8.3 drivers - 9993 nearly 1k lower :/
8.4 drivers - 9015 again nearly 1k lower :D and i dont see any game performance increase or flickering fixes :/

CCC is bloated, it's massive.

If ATI Tray Tools worked properly I'd use that to overclock instead. For now I just use it to set custom fan speeds.

Oh don't get me wrong, CCC is great when it works, it just seems to be really fussy.

I'm running XP Pro at the moment, it's not nLite'd at all, it's just an install with drivers, a couple of simple utilities, and World of Warcraft. :D

I think it's to do with the hotfix - i.e when I uninstalled and cleaned the drivers it left some old files behind. I'm running without CCC for now but i'll have a play around tomorrow and see if I can get it working.

I'll correct what I said above - it should just be simpler than it is. Just a range of settings and monitors for the card. :)

No performance improvements... makes the pain of switching to the green side a bit easier

ATI F.T.W. :D

Just finished a painless install of Slamd64. Installed ATI drivers for Linux.. worked first time. 3870 support at last (dual boot btw, still using Vista mainly).

Can't say I've ever had a problem with tray tools. Use it to set my custom 2D an 3D clocks every day. Never gone wrong unless I've not set a stable clock, which then it's obviously my fault :)

Well, only had a brief play with these last night.

Before I go into these though, will say on 8.3's was getting awful system hangs and lock-ups (especially COD 4). On the 8.2's no crashes, but powerplay bug was really a problem (until I OCed in Rivatuner which disables 2D/3D clocks)

With these, performance in Crysis seems fine. And performance in single player cod4 with AA seems a bit better, however it crashed again after my first round on multiplayer - system just froze.

Thought the general concensus was that ATI drivers were better than NV these days? Having gone through an 8800GTX/8800GTS(G92)/8800GT, the only time I really had a problem with those was when I OC'ed too much.

This now seems to be the 3rd set of drivers with issues in a row from ATI. And not minor issues either.

Work like a treat for me! pressed install... they installed, there was graphics on my screen... opened a game and to my shock it worked flawlesly as it did before on the last releases.

Well, thats cool. Am sure they work for many. Just wish I didn't have issues with them.

There is probably just something on my system somewhere they don't like, such a maybe a driver for something else, or something. Problem is I ain't re-install windows bit by bit to find out what that might be, if anything :D
