Catalyst 8.8 released

Hmm I just had GRID crash and whilst back in Windows I had the "display driver has recovered" message in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Never had that before....

Cool Cool: will run some pre 8.8 benches when i get home and some post 8.8's

What settings are you running in game.?

Whats with this 'cant find inf error' I keep getting with ATI drivers nowadays. I swear I'm going back to Nvidia soon.

Can anyone confirm wether adapative AA slider has changed for them also, Performance or Quality is all that can be selected and theres no Multi/SuperSampling anymore.

Hiya Firegod, I seem to be getting the "Display driver stopped responding" message as well. I'm just wondering if you have happened to fix this issue or are you still experiencing it?

Thanks. :)

Gone back to 8.7's and Adaptive AA is now back to normal, slider has now got the 4x settings from smooth to sharp to choose from and the Multi/SuperSampling drop-down box selection is now back, under the 8.8's the drop-down box is gone, so you can't select Multi/SuperSampling and also the slider is not 4x settings from smooth to sharp, all you can select is either performance at the left, or quality at the right.

Just read over at the GAME forums, someones asked about the Adaptive AA and apparently it has changed, it is now just a selection of either performance or quality, and there is no drop-down box anymore to select Multi or SuperSampling, apparently moving the slider all the way to the right to Quality is SuperSampling, can anyone confirm if their 8.8's are now like this as ive now gone back to the 8.7's due to thinking the Adaptive AA slider in the 8.8's is buggered.

Multi and super sampling has gone also.

They said it was going to go in this version as that choice doesn't actually do anything!

You may think it does but you would be wrong:

When using adaptive AA the driver analyses the current rendering and decides whether supersampling or multisampling is needed in order to improve the quality of the current transparent object. We found that the old controls in the panel were confusing for some of our users as the presence of the drop-down box implied that they could select between supersampling and multisampling, whereas actually the box simply controlled whether the tuning controls for the supersampling or multisampling portion of the adaptive AA mode were being displayed in the panel. The driver behaviour has not changed, and the control panel interface has been altered to be simpler and less confusing

Well I downloaded just the drivers and not the one's included in the whole package as mentioned on the pages before this one. Re-installed them over the top and now I haven't had that message. GRID still crashes with the usual "program has stopped responding" but this seems to have fixed the issue with regards to the "display driver".

Give that a go and see if it works for you. :)

Cheers for that, so its not buggered.

*goes off to re-install the 8.8's again. :p

Your welcome. It had me confused until I read that article. I always mucked around swapping between multi and super sampling with the pull down box. Wasn't doing a thing except trying to show me the difference in the view windows.

I bet loads of people didn't know that either.
