Catalyst 9.8 :)

Anyone else noticed their card has gotten a lot quieter under Windows 7 now? I was very close to changing the cooler on my 4670 but it's almost silent now.

I must admit these drivers have pleased me in one respect. I usually have my fan at 20%, 30% if its a particularly taxing game as I hate the noise the damn thing makes.

However if I leave it to sort itself out and don't use manual fan control anymore, the fan remains at lower speeds, only ramping up as the temperature gets too high.

Running furmark it is currently at 85 degrees C and the fan is at 35%, if a game cranks the card that high I doubt I will care (headphones).

On the desktop the fan speed is reporting 0% and the card is at around 52 degrees just surfing the net etc.

I like this improvement.

Using the stock cooler as well (the standard thing on the older powercolours) but I do have a HAF 922 case.

Defiance has been running these drivers for some time! He tells me that they work very well in Arma 2 etc... Has the pretty much the same setup as me and gets hardly no lag in chernogorsk, so maybe they're good?

Ok the temperature on the desktop has gone up to around 67 now but the fan is at 10%, it fluctuates as it needs to.

Point being I never hear it on the desktop and in games its still darned quiet!

Noticed the same thing on my 4870X2. No more use of manual profiles :). Great drivers!

Aye they are great drivers in this respect at least. They are of particular value to me as the HAF cases are pathetic sound insulators. I use very quiet fans and an SSD for the OS so it is still very quiet, result being the cooler on the 4870 sounds like a tornado when it gets going.

With that turned down, in a quiet house you can barely hear the pc apart from the very quiet movement of air passing through the case.

Still to try them gaming though :).

Mine is holding at 27% minimum on the desktop. Seems to scale well in gaming though.

These drivers took AGES to install. The number of changes help explain that!
