Ceiling just fell on my head...

I must admit, there has been a smirk brought to my face. But still, a bloody pain in the bottom!

Got the builders, plumbers and plasterers all round tomorrow. Just concerned about the rest of it coming down, or it spreading to a adjoining room!

Randomtom, I'm going mental over a lack of a ceiling...Don't know about the rest of these goons though!

Yeh I can imagine, seems like an awful scenario, disturbing too if you heard it beginning to crack, can't really see the funny side if it has destroyed some of your possessions.

Fingers crossed for a cheap fix.

Sorry for my bad attempt at humour

Why?

I'd suggest to the OP that he and his parents remove the lath and stick the plasterboards up (just a case of nailing them into the beams essentially, then get a plasterer to skim over it, probably only take him a couple of hours to do depending on the room.

don't do this, get a proffessional plasterer to look at it. if there's a chance of there being horse hair or asbestos in the mix then it's not something the OP should deal with. i don't want to sound overkill and you don't have to follow this advice, but it's what i'd do.

its a simple fix if you know what you are doing.

Step 1 - Remove broken bits of plasterboard
Step 2 - Cut the plasterboard in your ceiling until it is either a rectangle or square hole
Step 3 - Cut new plasterboard to fit hole in ceiling
Step 4 - Using a powered screwdriver, screw as many screws as you think is safe into plasterboard where the beams are, you may want to measure this out and draw lines on plasterboard and make sure you dont go right through the plasterboard
Step 5 - plaster over plasterboard
Step 6 - sand plaster to get smooth ceiling
Step 7 - paint

its 2 man job though since someone will need to hold the plasterboard whilst its being screwed in

if whatever caused it has breached other area's only then would i think about calling a builder

lol!! (but also, hope your house isn't too ruined :( )

...that happened to a teacher at my school... funny stuff (he wasn't hurt).

...But seriously, hide a cat up there before you call the builder, and make sure you take pics :)
