Census 2021

We've just received the census letter for 2021 and it's good to see it's all online this time as opposed to being done by filling in an actual paper form.

I haven't seen any posts on social media yet refusing to fill it in but I'm sure there will be plenty by people who think they're too important and that this is a breach of their human rights or some other such garbage.

Not sure how some are claiming they've filled it in already.

I can be 99.9% sure who will be in my house on census day. The only thing that will change that is if someone dies.

Having said that, we'll still do it on the designated day, or soon after.

is it actually a realistic possibility to be fined for not doing it?

Yes, they do follow up if a household hasn't responded.

Did you all get yours by email, nowt in my inbox yet?

No, by a physical letter through the post with a code to type into the census web site.

Why do they need to know the address of my employer and even a brief description of my job role?

They don't. They just ask for the name of your employer, not their address.

I was defs asked for the name and address of my employer

I've just triple checked and I wasn't asked for the address, just the company name.

I definitely got asked for my wife's work address but not for myself? Presumably because I answered that she primarily travels to an office and I primarily travel from home?

That's a good point, there could well be some logic behind the questions that doesn't ask for a work address if you primarily work from home. Good spot

So lets say you fill it in early then on the 21st go and stay at your moms.

You can change it, it says that you can complete it early but make changes if needed.

Yup, we did know it was coming but just didn’t expect it quite so soon and suddenly.

Because the law says you have to and if you don't, they'll come knocking on your door to find out why. This is not speculation.

Out of interest, (and i'm sure it's been asked if i read back ), how come you're all doing it now when it says to do it on or shortly after the 21st?

Yes, it's been asked and answered

Generally, people know where they're going to be (this is especially appropriate at the moment) but it also says that you can do it now and then amend it later if there are any changes.

They'll think "idiots" like any other sane person would.

Also got one through the door of my uncle (who passed away recently) so just binned that one.

I picked up the one at my mums house, she died earlier this year so I completed it as per this post.

Yeah we thought about it but decided against it, given we aren’t the householders.

The census site is a little bit ambiguous about this so I don't think it's a problem.
