Census 2021

Because it is based on that one day. You could be sacked, made redundant, got a new job the day before and details may not have been updated yet. Say you got a new job and your last day was 20th and you don't start your new job until April for example you would technically be out of work and would put nothing in that question.
HMRC will still know where you work on any particular day - assuming you're being paid for the job you're doing on that day.

I stand corrected! :)

I definitely got asked for my wife's work address but not for myself? Presumably because I answered that she primarily travels to an office and I primarily travel from home?

She was also asked if her work is primarily in the UK but I didn't. The only question she answered differently is that she was born in Wales and I was born in England.

That's a good point, there could well be some logic behind the questions that doesn't ask for a work address if you primarily work from home. Good spot :)

Yep, completed ours. We haven't been impacted by COVID in any way which would change our answers but I do find it odd that's there's NOTHING bearing that in mind. So the biggest pandemic in 100 years (or more if just talking about the UK) and that's deemed irrelevant as to where you work and how you commute etc.

Given it's only done every 10 years it seems like the data won't be particularly useful or reflective of the 'real world'; 100% of our employees are currently working at home, but they were all in on 5th January and will all be back as soon as able (29th March or 12th April, we're unsure). Maybe they'll just get all the data back, and given it's all online now decide to do another one in 2/3 years time.

I just hope it doesn't impact policy or invesments too much, like no longer investing in cycling to work because the data shows nobody does that anymore.

I think the jist of it is, they are asking way too many personal questions beyond what is necessary really.

Likely more than they could if we were still in Europe. Does GDPR still apply now? Not so sure...

Way too many personal questions?
Can you give an example of what you mean?
None of the questions gave me pause for thought, maybe I had a truncated form.
Oh, and not for nothing, but it’s gist not jist.

Eh? Like what? And of course GDPR still applies.

The stuff in "post 81" isn't personal. It doesn't even qualify as sensitive personal information for GDPR.
