CES 2025 Wishlist

Thanks dude. It's from Worktop Express and Better Kitchens. Yes, really :p

It's a kitchen worktop placed on top of some kitchen cabinets - not fixed. The worktop weighs a ton, it took 6 of us to get it up the stairs... (I opportunistically arranged this when hosting a BBQ). There's some bonus adjustable legs at the back supports at the back which I think were just from Amazon, screwed in.
Looks awesome, tempted to copy you although slightly less deep (not sure 96cm depth would actually allow for the door to close...!) from worktop express as well. They have some lovely finishes/wooden worktops on there.

Yeah do it! It was such a success I did basically the same thing to create a vast dining room table… again a huge worktop but this time with some sexy zebrawood. Used some off-cuts to make some little side tables too:

Yes I am currently wolfing down an obscene pour of baileys, what of it?! :o :p

If you do go for it, make sure you pay attention to the edges that you decide to ‘round’. You should be able to see what I opted for on these pics but the world is your oyster, they have a really good customisation tool and you can get your size of choice down to the cm :)

Thanks @Nitefly looks wicked! Shame it's so heavy there's no way I'd be able to get it up the stairs lol

Two men might be able to do it but they are incredibly awkward to move because of the size. The person at the bottom would have to press it over their head to get it over the bannister

With 6 of us it was a breeze… it you could rally the lads and offer them a pizza / beers it could be sorted!

I think I'm going to end up buying 27" 4K 240hz with DP2.1

I've been waiting for an 8K 120hz monitor to be announced... and still absolute silence... so 4K at 27" will be a nice compromise, should be incredible to use with a 4090/5080/5090 ;)

I will also switch from 480hz WOLED to 500hz QD OLED when possible.

The more I use this LG dual mode 4k 32" monitor the more I'm less tempted at any of the potential new releases, it really has ticked so many boxes for me.

There's definitely still a temptation to look at 27" 1440p again as I do think that size/res is a pretty perfect combination but the more I use the 32" 4k OLED, the more I really find it to be the best monitor for me right now.

I just can't go that far down now, the 42 has totally spoiled me! Guess I'm waiting for a 240Hz to come...
There's nothing I'd love more than a 240hz OLED TV/5K2K UW but looks like they're only going up to 165hz for now. 100% prefer a big screen for single player/sports games, once 240hz drops I'm interested.

But I'm also a sucker for trying out something even I do end up selling it a few weeks/months later :D

Having got used to 34", I don't think I can really go smaller, even for a god-tier display. That said, 45" is probably too big for me, not to mention my desk! As others have said, the 38" 1600p area seems ideal, but hardly any manufacturers seem interested.

Mate of mine got the 49" Samsung ultrawide and it sounds/looks comically big - but he said after a few weeks he is so used to it now that he really would struggle going to anything smaller so I can definitely understand how you get used to the bigger sizes.

at what point do refresh rates make almost no difference whatsoever?

Looks like we're getting into stupid territory at this point and its purely marketing. Doubt almost anyone can tell the difference between 360 and 480 let alone 750 onwards

The smaller refresh rate gains are certainly less noticeable but the difference from 240 to 480 is certainly something worth seeing for yourself. I found that 240 was a noticeable improvement over 144 for how smooth games felt - but 360 wasn't that much of a jump from 240 (at least to me).

480 from 240 felt like a change you could see and feel, and if you can push games at frames to match that refresh rate (only OW2 for me) then it genuinely feels like you're looking through a window and everything feels really 'in sync'.

It all depends from person to person though and I do think you're more likely to notice/appreciate a resolution bump over a refresh rate bump past a certain point. 1440p is a lovely resolution 240hz vs. 360hz won't feel that different - whereas moving from 1440p to 4k is something that you'll absolutely notice immediately.

fair enough, im on 240 currently and the jump from 144 was definitely noticeable. but the jump from 60 to 144 was much more of a jump

maybe 480 will make quite a difference in games, but the titles I play will never reach that level of fps anyway so not much point for me really. whereas jumping from 1440p to 4k will make a much bigger difference

Yeah, completely agree on this. The thing I notice most now is going back down the stack vs. going up.

You can go to 240 from 144 and feel like the difference is marginal - but then going back to 144 after being on 240 for so long really does feel noticeably slower.

Agreed! Diminishing returns I suppose

The annoying part is that we need so many frames to achieve almost perfect motion clarity. Thats why I'm very interested in gsync pulsar, and crt render emulation shader progress. With current sample and hold tech, we need 1000hz to match motion clarity crts achieved at far lower fps needed.
