CEX - never again!

TBH I've not had any issues, I've sold them a couple of used GPUs that weren't in the original boxes, and a used G29 wheel that was in the box but kinda loose without any quibbles. Although the GPUs were quite scarce at the time so they were probably desperate to get hold of stock as would be able to resell quickly. I did also buy a ridiculously expensive GPU from them (£775 for second hand!) that I justified to myself my having got a 'good' price for the old stuff I was selling them.

Bought some DDR2 non-ecc a few years ago, got home and noticed it was ecc ram so no good. Took it back to exchange it but they had no other DDR2 in so proceeded to give me a voucher instead of a refund. Held my ground and got that refund.

Hard to take some youth seriously though when they are wearing some silly Pikachu woolly hat.

Unless it's brand new and vac wrapped you won't get full price for it.

I'd honestly just chuck perfectly good stuff in the bin rather than have the hassle

Sold my AMD 5850 to them years ago, as they were paying twice what it was worth on the 2nd hand market.
My friend also sold them his, which he'd absolutely cooked by throwing 1.3+ volts at it to reach 1GHz, it was artifacting after 30-60 minutes on desktop... they only tested as far as making sure it'd boot.

For that reason I've never bought anything other than some DVDs from them.. except an Xbox 360 just before GTA5 came out, it annoyed becuase it was too loud so I sold it online (ebay or somewhere else) and bought a PS3 slim - The guy paid me and then never sent me an address (said he was going back to see family in africa), so I held onto it for 3-4 months and then sold it back to CEX

They're very hit-and-miss

Had an ancient HDTV in the loft that wasn't worth anything and managed to get £20 out of them for it

Drop them a mail now so that they don’t pull a “you damaged it, else you’d have brought it in earlier”

Shame they use withheld numbers so you can't phone a local CEX directly. Guessing they get quite a bit of abuse!, but pretty **** if you need to get in touch for any issue.

I've had CEX mark down a quote a few times due to cosmetic scratches, but I still find them better than Music Magpie for selling tech. Go back 10-15 years and it was the other way round.

Druggies, thieves, down n outs, and all 3. Folk needing a tenner to last them until giro day etc. Same with Cash Converters et al.
