CEX - never again!

Not sold anything to them in donkey’s years… I used to have a massive dvd clear out every now and and again, but I stopped buying DVDs… and only have the ones that are keepers now, which are slowing getting replaced by Blu-rays… yeah I know; but I like physical media. Went looking for only fools and horses and could find it on any streaming service….

The last thing I sold to them was a gba micro and a load of Pokémon games… they are worth a fortune now.. wish I kept them. Lol

Had similar, sent them a pair of pristine condition Bose quiet comfort headphones, I’d used them only a handful of times and they’d been sat in the box/case for at least 4 years by this point. Obviously tested them etc before sending them off. They rejected them stating the ear covers were in bad condition.

I get them back and it’s like a toddler had been let loose on them, rips in both ear covers and they were an absolute state, and interestingly had a bunch of silver glitter all over them (?!?!)

Ended up keeping them and buying some replacements covers for a few quid.

I get that ear covers can perish over time, but this was a night and day difference in their condition.

Never again!

For the most part had zero issues.
I had a big clear out years ago of various things, consoles, figures, random tech. Apart from being at the counter awhile as I had multiple bags lol.bet they hated me, was easy and quick.

I did go in a couple of months ago with a big bag of dvd's after having a clearout and stood there for about 20 minutes whilst they went through them all and made about 20 pence!
The ones they didn't take went to the charity shop next door, which is where I wish I'd gone in the first place! :p

"OK, sell me a HDMI cable now and i'll put in the box".

"No can do, has to be official and none in stock".

I let it go as i couldn't be arsed. However, travelling home, i get a call, "The right trigger on the controller is not depressing fully", we'll have to knock another £19 off".

They're employing minimum wage staff, some of them are knowledgable others aren't - they're going to have to have systems in place, it's going to have to be quite procedure oriented when buying stock off people rather than just leaving things like a missing part to the discretion of the staff member. (see @Diddum's apt description of the sort of clientele they need to deal with - they've gotta have some rigid criteria here or they'll get steamrolled by those people). If you've got a cable missing then that's more faffing about for them so not surprising they'd do that, if you've got a faulty controller then that means they're potentially going to get a return if/when they sell it on - more staff time or they're going to have to get someone to fix it or they're going to have to sell the system without that controller thus at a different price.

They've got rent, rates, salaries to pay - sourcing a new part (which they don't have) or dealing with a return or repairing a faulty controller is all going to cost both time and money - obviously it wasn't worth your time dealing with those issues yourself so you can't be too mad at them for not charging the same price than if you had.

nobody was biting on the MM or elsewhere. They "examined them" and tried to lowball me by saying they were C grade due to being damaged, when questioned they'd confused the texture on the velour earpads for being faulty when brushing a finger back and forth. The person in question had never seen headphones with that sort of pad before, openly admitted to it when pushed. I laughed in the guys face and kept them, ended up giving them to my brother in law for Christmas that year.

They didn’t recognise my fancy headphones as being fancy so I laughed in their face…. You’re talking about some teenager on minimum wage not some audio geek at a specialist high end hi-fi place and apparently no one else wanted to buy those headphones either so maybe they were right.

I'm talking about a guy that was in his 50's and inspecting something he didn't understand while lowballing me, rather than admitting to not knowing what he was looking at from the get go. Whether that's company policy or not I've no idea, but I don't particularly appreciate people trying to rip me off regardless. That said, I'd hardly call DT770's specialist high end hi-fi equipment, you can regularly pick them up for less than £100, they're fantastic for their price point but not what I'd consider specialist equipment by any measure, and velour earpads are extremely common for headphones ranging from £40-50 +.

I've sold a few sets of DT770's over the years and had no problem whatsoever, I'm pretty sure I even sold a pair on here at one point. The MM is sometimes a bit slow when it comes to shifting audio gear unfortunately, and I lack the patience for ebay/fb marketplace etc.

I never take anything there because I was always under the impression that they torture test your item behind the scenes before they agree to pay you.

I got a load of old Sega consoles, mega drives and master systems plus games and some accessories, all work but I'm missing a lot of the TV cables. Just wanna get rid as I'm having a clear out and never use them. I've been meaning to get it all down to CeX along with a couple of PS2 consoles one of them being the rare blue but no original controller and missing the HDMI cable. I can't be bothered with time wasters on FB and too much hassle of listing everything on ebay so what CeX don't take the rest will go to the charity shop.

Another update...............

I stuck a complaint in about the whole experience and have had an email back saying, "We ensure that essential accessories are included with them and for consoles, the essential accessories, like cables, can be original or third-party".

So the store lied to me............

"Based on the details shared in your email, i have initiated an investigation with the store management and i will get back to you within 24-48hrs".

I don't care on the outcome, i'll never shop there again, i just hope that particular store feel a bit of pressure about their scummy antics.

Some of them have there own rules. They also don't always test things. I used to go hunting all the CeX stores around my area buying up all the cheap CF cards and USB drives for literally pennies and I had quite a few that weren't even wiped with peoples photos and all sorts on them. Some people also use CeX to sell/trade in faulty goods that may not show up on testing.

Now being in my 40's and single again I think I am done with CEX as well.

I refuse to not pronounce it as "kecks". So in my eyes you are basically saying you are done with wearing underpants. Which is fine as it is none of my business really.

Just so I've said my piece, I've bought and sold a number of items from cex with no issues. It's just the luck of the draw, really. They have so many staff and so many branches it's literally a toss up (haha pun) as to what kind of service you're going to get.

I've bought a few mobile phones over the years, a CPU (my current 7800x3d in my main rig), a GPU (7900xt) and RAM. All working as intended with no issues so I haven't had to test out their warranty yet
