CEX shop

I have in the past shopped at a CEX shop.

No, wait, I am misremembering it. It was a sex shop, old school with blacked-out windows. Much less embarrassing than shopping at a CEX shop :)
About the only time I went in one I was laughing at the used Blu-rays being more than the new ones in HMV!
My nephew went in to look at the games and I ended up browsing the likes of the anime titles and trying not to laugh when I saw the discs I'd just bought at HMV for £6 new were £12, and other titles were consistently higher than new (but not by the same percentage).

To be honest, very rarely go in Cex but online you get some nice bargains if you look in the right places. Last week I managed to get two Toshiba 256gb m.2 NVMe drives for £50 each! Cant beat that even on MM. Upon testing usage time for both was less than 4hrs. So these were basically new :)

Cex (webuy) does have it uses.
I go on HUKD too.

I ordered online from Cex a 2GB stick of DDR2 but they sent me a 1GB stick. Then to return it they saying they won't replace/refund me until they have tested it. I'm like WTF I'm returning it because of their error, not because I didn't want it.

CEX are just like Cash Converters, in so much that they're basically a legalised fencing operation. I remember posting on here sometime back about the trouble my Brother-in-law had with the latter when he spotted his recently stolen golf bats proudly displayed in the window of one of their shops - complete with his personalised bat covers and a bag with his contact details in UV pen.

Just been had by my local CeX shop today, noticed a 2GB stick of DDR2 RAM in the window for £3, bargain I thought perfect for fixing up an old machine. Got home tried to insert it into a slot and noticed the notch didn't line up, googled the serial number and it turns out that it's server RAM. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd have known but it clearly stated "Memory - Desktop" on the display stand and also on my receipt!

Shysters.

Until their recent TV advert, i had no idea they were pronounced s-ex as opposed to k-ex, which is how i had alwyays referred to them.
Kex as in your undies, you kex.

I suspect this was probably ignorance rather than malice tbh.

Sold a graphics card in the local CeX a few months back, walk in, go and have a coffee while they 'test' it, go back and pick up the cash, which wasn't much less than I would have got from the MM (- the lowball offers ;) ) and certainly less stressful/risky that selling it on ebay.

Tend to go there for DVD's & nothing else.

Did chuckle when I saw a second hand gfx card in one of their window cases that was priced higher than they go for brand new lol.
Wound a mate up that works in there next time saw him in a pub about it & he replied "Well, people are stupid enough to pay for it, so why not?"

But it shows they never tested it either as it wouldn't have fitted whatever they use to test it. Unless they have a server motherboard but then they would have known it was server memory and not listed it as desktop memory.

I want my money back and I will get my money back (or a replacement) I won't take no **** from them.
