who outside of england knows about leeds utd and why?
You honestly don't believe Leeds United is a global brand?

Really?

Then its not surprising that your views elsewhere in the thread are so wide of the mark. You're living in your own little world. At least I understand you now :)

Gilly you are a true leeds fan... you just keep telling yourself Leeds Utd are 'global brand' and one day they will rule the prem and the CL... ok i'm in my own little world

what makes them a global brand in this day and age?

When the rest of those sides are paying more than the premiership to see their team play I'll be impressed :)

How much do your tickets go for, our of interest?

As a Wolves fan I hear plenty of the 'we're a big club, we should be in the premier league' thing off my mates, and despite agreeing with the first part I always feel the second is misguided...history means squat, as does a big fan base and a big ground, if the team on the pitch isn't good enough.

Theres Premiership *potential*, which Leeds and Wolves have more than a lot of the other clubs in the championship...saying as such isn't quite the same as assuming that theres some divine right to be there though. Is that what you're trying to explain Gilly? :)

How can they not still be a big club if they're the biggest outside the Prem?

This information suggests otherwise:

Leeds are a club steeped in history. Just look at their record. Like I have already said, they were in Europe every single year during the late 60s and early 70s. They won the old first division more recently than Liverpool. They are a famous British club with recognition across Europe.

I am not sure, however, that they are a global brand in the true sense of the word. I doubt if someone from say Japan would know a great deal about Peter Lorimer and Billy Bremner or even David Batty. Whereas David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney et al are household names across the whole globe.

A big club with a fantastic history? Yes. A global brand? Afraid not.

Through players:

*South Africa is well aware of Leeds United through Lucas Radebe and Phil Masinga.
*Australia is well aware of Leeds United through the extensive fanbase and the handful of players we've had from there.
*Italy is aware of Leeds through Olly Dacourt who moved to Roma from Leeds.
*Brazil is aware of Leeds United through the Brazilian international footballer we had on loan.
*India/Indians/Sikhs are aware of Leeds United through Harpal Singh.
*Ghana through Yeboah.
*Ireland through Kelly, Harte, McPhail and Robbie Keane - who is also known in Italy and was bought from there by Leeds.

I can't really be bothered to keep listing well known foreign players. But they raise the profile of the club in their own countries.

Another thing that does this is European football. I don't suppose I need to list all of the clubs Leeds have played against in Europe in the last ten years do I? How about all the Champions League sides we beat on the way to the semi only 5 years ago? We've had England internationals too (though not as many as we should have had).

[edit]If you'd said you were a manyoo fan earlier it would've all made sense and I wouldn't have wasted my time. That info sooner next time please.

Between £25 and £45 for standard seats. They've also done away with concessions in the 'family stand' - now renamed and no longer the family stand. They've also stopped the schools promotions they had where schoolkids were invited to matches for pittance if they were playing smaller clubs that didn't bring much support. Like £3 to see a game.

I agree that in terms of the game itself history doesn't matter in the slightest. The things I was referring to were the things off the pitch. The business side of things is, unfortunately, as big as the game itself these days.

Damn right. The last thing I was saying was that Leeds had a right to be in the prem. They should be there, but they're not. Thats something that has to be come to terms with, and the club need to strive to rectify it. I think they are striving :)

I'm seriously starting to believe Gilly's yanking all our chains here :D

Just like Crystal Palace, Southampton, Nottingham Forest etc, Leeds are no longer a Permiership club. Unfortunately every club has its fans which still run around under the misconception that they are a massive club. Yes, you have a great history, but that's in the past. That counts for nothing on the pitch.

You're in the championship now, not the premiership. Get over it.

Have you really not read any of my posts? You just mirror imaged my most recent post and then told me to get over it

I find it hard to take that Leeds are a global brand... just because a player happens to move from Leeds to Roma surely doesn't mean that fans invest time in supporting Leeds...?

If I hear that Reading sign a player from 'Club X' it doesn't give me a compulsion to support that club in any way... maybe it makes me 'aware' of their existence but knowing about a club and contributing to a clubs wellbeing are very different things...

A global brand implies that all across the world a significant amount of people buy a product, to me a tenous link is not proof of global branding... :)

That's not to detract from Leeds being a big club in English football history but global, in my opinion, is something they are definetely not.

They're known globally. To me thats a global brand. If we're talking semantics and definitions then I don't really care. Everyone knew what I meant through the context in which I was using the words.

Until someone cross-sections the population of the world we'll never know.

The Leeds are the biggest team outside the Premier comment is pish

Wolves are bigger than Leeds if were talking history/fanbase/players wise
