Championship playoff Final **Spoilers**

Clearly the problem is interpretation of what a global 'brand' is:

A couple of definitions are:
  • Brand name which is universally recognized.
  • Brand sold everywhere: a brand name recognized all over the world

Well this shows that the conditions to be a global brand are to be recognised across the world as opposed to selling significant amounts of product, well done Gilly. :D

For me though Leeds still aren't a global brand - as aforementioned, maybe 4 years ago but not at this time. :)

OT: Is that a peach in your sig Gilly?

Gilly - calm down you always have your back up, and you always think you are correct, leeds are not a global brand and never will be, so stop 'taking down' people who don't agree with your warped thoughts

Could you please stop talking utter tripe. "Never will be" ??? Can you predict the future? Leeds Utd were playing the likes of Real Madrid and Roma in the premier European competition only 5 years ago. They last won the top domestic league more recently than Liverpool and have had recent dealings with clubs on all continents, and supporters there too.

As an example Fiorentina were relegated from Serie A then came back up and haven't done much since yet I recognise them as a global brand. It's going to take longer than a couple of years for Leeds Utd to lose that recognition although it will happen unless they get back to the Premiership.

I told you to grow up and come up with pertinent points or shut up. You haven't done either yet.

1. I don't have my back up and don't need to calm down.

2. Leeds are a global brand. To take from Royality's post:

Brand:

Brand name which is universally recognized.

Leeds United is a brand that is recognised globally within the world of football. This is inescapable proof. You cannot even begin to deny it.

3. I'm not taking anyone down. If you feel I'm taking you down then stop trolling this thread.

4. As Murf states - you cannot see the future, though if you can come up with indisputable proof that Leeds United will never be something they already are, then I'm all ears.

You live in the past gilly, your love of leeds has warped your views!
No world star players play for your club, there are no recent achievements that would suggest leeds are a global brand and there shirt/badge is not something that stands out to other countries.

With the money issues, debts, stadium ownership and the fact that they are shelling out millions on players wages that don’t play for them and the fact they play in the 2nd div…… why would I think they would become a global brand anytime soon?

As I have said before there is an elite band of clubs that have that status, we all know when we see a Juventus or Real Madrid shirt in the street, and that’s echoed across the world to some extent, but would an average German fan for example recognise a Leeds Utd badge or shirt? Do Leeds get between 20 – 50 million a year from a company because they want there name splashed around the world?

They are known in England and a few ‘in the know’ fans from around the world will have a knowledge of who they are and what they have achieved, but if you think for a minute that Leeds are a recognised force/team/brand/ in the football world then think again. I’m sad to say from my travels that Millwall have the biggest reputation outside of the prem…. And that mainly to do with there fans or the myth of there fans… I could not comment. I would also have a few other lower div teams above them starting with Notts Forest, but again that is to do with there past and not present day standings, which in this day and age counts for almost everything wrongly or rightly.

Thats your opinion. I don't care what your opinion is, because its wrong ;) but thats your opinion.

It is fact that Leeds United is a brand. You cannot escape it. Football is a business and Leeds United is a brand of one of those businesses. It is fact that people in every continent are aware of the Leeds United brand and what is stands for.

If you can come up with another way to describe that other than global brand then lets hear it.

A good few pages arguing on a technicality.

Technically, Leeds Utd are a global brand.

However, not a very well recognised one. Personally I see only a handfull of football clubs truly marketable globally:

Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC, Inter and Juve

Thats probably who we all see at worldwide giant "brands" of the football business. Leeds are nowhere near that bracket. Miles off.

But Gilly is arguing that they are a global brand, and he's right. He's picked on something and stuck with it to the end. You should know that by now.

Ok gilly…. You win!

I give up, if you think that Leeds utd the 2nd div club are a global brand on every continent… then go for it, I’m sure I’m not the only one chuckling at that statement..

But as I said I give up! I’m a crazy fool but I do rather dislike banging my head against a brick wall, so I will stop for now

Unsuccessful global brand? :p ;)

If I'm not mistaken, the Premiership is the most watched league in the world? Didn't Leeds play in the Premiership? How can an argument be made against Leeds not being a global brand when their games would've been watched by millions around the world week in week out? They might not be as well known as the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United but they are known. I don't think Gilly has tried to imply otherwise.
Can't believe this thread is still going! :p I've highlighted your key point here. By that definition, any premiership club should theoretically be a global brand, and we all know that isn't the case.

Like you say, Leeds would've been watched by millions in the past, but that is far, far from the case today. To consider them a global brand today is nothing short of ludicrous. Attendance-wise, they're the 6th biggest club in the championship for crying out loud, the second tier of English football. This season, they only filled on average 55% of their ground, the 5th worst attendance-per-seat percentage in the league. If Leeds are still supposed to be one of the biggest clubs in the world, where have all these fans gone? Yes, Leeds may have been a global brand in the past, but to even suggest that applies today is nothing short of baffling.

Agree. They don't receive the exposure they did while they were playing in the Premiership but can you honestly tell me that all of the Leeds supporters, and nuetrals, that watched their games, around the world, have now completely forgotten about them? If so, what's happened to all of the Leeds shirts and memorabilia that people bought. Has it all vanished in to thin air :p If there are people around the world who watched Leeds and know they play football then they are a globally known brand. They just happen to be a small brand compared to the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and AC Milan.
