Change to MM access after 1st January 2024

Awful rule, it just enforces the " SPAM MORE " be active over 90 days to gain access... So all those posts I've already made, and the years of access on OCUK means no access unless I post 15 times over 90 days?

Just change the rules for new users - You must be an active member over a certain period of time or something
You're currently posting at the rate of hundreds of posts per 90 days, why are you throwing a strop that you'll need to maintain an average of one a week?

Because it's a choice, not a forced rule to gain access to something I may need at some point in the near future.

Ie, I'm choosing to post a certain amount, not being told I HAVE TO because it's a rule

Utterly bizarre logic there.

You're getting upset because even though you already post way more than you need to, you don't like being told there's a restriction that doesn't materially affect you.

A free resource, provided by a company that doesn't have to provide it, and run by people giving their free time who don't have to do so.

I think it's fair enough for them to mandate a few easily achieved rules for the benefit it provides us at no cost.

Sometimes, there's a larger point to be made. Not everyone is swayed by the "I'm all right Jack" view all the time...

Maybe somebody will make it at some point.

So far there's just been a lot of self centred entitlement from people getting upset that they'll be expected to give back a whopping post per week to keep accessing the perks of the community in order to help it it be that little bit more secure and trustworthy.

A lot of marketplace leeches coming out of the woodwork (for avoidance of doubt, that's not thinly veiled, that's my explicit opinion of what people are whose sole interest in this forum is the marketplace).

Your attitude is a large part of the problem. Them against us. Aggressive language. Setting the so-called community against each other. According to you, I'm not even a part of this community any more. Perhaps I never was. Not worthy. Less than. So be it. If this community does not value my contribution, then why should I strive harder to convince you or anyone else? I'll take my time, energy and possibly my business elsewhere. That's the point. I wonder if OcUK staff are watching.

This thread confuses me.

If people can't see why the MM is as trustworthy and works as well as it does purely because of the relatively high entry requirements and stakes involved (e.g. loss of your long term forum account with a lot of time and effort invested), then it's probably for the best they're losing access.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but if you're not contributing, then what do you have to lose by scamming someone and doing a runner with the money?

The forum drives traffic to the shop. The MM doesn't. Arguably it puts a little more money in people's pockets which might get spent at the shop. But the MM itself doesn't drive traffic to the shop.

The opposite could also be argued - if I can buy some components for 30-40% off from the MM, then maybe I'll do that instead of paying new prices...

Far less of a problem than the monumental levels of entitlement from the people who think a post per week is too much to ask of them. You see it as aggressive and divisive, perhaps because it's touching a nerve and you don't like being called out on your entitlement?

A community thrives on the contributions of the community members, not the people sitting on the sidelines picking off the stuff that benefits them and giving nothing back.

If a post per week is such a chore, there's barely any contribution to value (or otherwise) in the first place.

You don't know me. Don't you dare assume. Mainly, I don't like being falsely accused. Perhaps you've not been following my desk build project log? Perhaps you don't care. Perhaps you think a hundred posts debating the merits of the Israel war are more of a contribution. I don't recall how long ago my last MM transaction was, but it was quite some time, but the total being no more than 10.

But you know what? None of that matters does it? You've made up your mind. The facts don't matter any more. You don't want me here. So be it. I'm gone.

Er no. Last I checked OCUK was not a charity. They fund the forums to drive traffic to ther shop.

Indeed, and the vast majority of the forum sections continue to be available to you regardless of how frequently you choose to post.

You're being awfully dramatic for someone who apparently seldom used the MM in the first place. The MM is very useful but it's not the only way to buy and sell things on the internet.

If you're contributing to the forums and are not only here for the marketplace, then my comments directed at people who are only interested in the marketplace aren't directed at you are they? Nor will the meagre post count requirements stop you personally accessing the marketplace.

I suspect the sensitivity with which you've reacted to my posts and the topic as a whole though betrays the fact you perhaps do only really value the marketplace here and your ability to access it, rather than the forum and it's community as a whole.

Still not seeing this larger point, only a bit more 'me me me'.

I don't like seeing anyone leave.

You meet the 15/90 post requirements easily (something like a hundred posts in the last couple of months) but as you have less than 1000 posts, your MM access was removed last year as one of the grandfathered in users which I talked about in this post so this change doesn't affect you.

Just carry on as you are. You'll reach the level soon enough and have access.
