Changes coming to Amazon Prime

I've just had a look at Netflix pricing, compared to what Amazon offer.

I got the email in may '14, telling about the change in price and the freeze for what I pay for a guaranteed 2 years. I currently pay £5.99 a month for Netflix, which brings it to £71.88 PA.

Now next year, the new price will affect all subscribers, making my subscription go to £6.99. This will push the cost a good bit to paying £83.88 PA.

If Amazon is only £79, that already looks like the better deal, no? Video on-demand, Free next day delivery? Anything else?

The only factor would be what is being shown on either side for video on-demand. If the same titles can be found across both, it makes more sense to be on Amazon? I pay for Unblock-US also to get more out of Netflix, so I currently get to view a good range, but I'm wondering if it's really worth it now.

Amazon you get for £79 a year:

Prime Video
Prime Music
Prime photo backup (unlimited space including raw files)
Prime Parcel Delivery
Prime kindle lending library (a book a month free and once u have it, u always have it)

SOON - Amazon Echo (yay!)

And now Clarkson, Hammond and May  :D

Personally, I love it, fantastic for £79 a year / £6.58 a month - much much more than netflix offer.

Just going on personal findings.

My partners father was tricked into signing up for it and also my line manager at work.

I'm pretty certain they are unlikely to be isolated cases. It's a pretty aggressive and underhand marketing scheme to put it lightly.

Tricked? Your partner's father and your line manager ought to read before clicking stuff. Honestly, if you get signed up to Prime without realising what you've done, you deserve to have £79 removed from your bank account. People just blindly accept anything these days.

I just recently signed up for £59 and I find the entire service great value for money. I get free delivery, if I choose to wait for delivery I get money credited to my account, and I can stream very good TV and films to my Kindle Fire box and stick. And now, I also get free music. Stop whining and tell your partner's father and line manager to stop blindly clicking stuff!

What's Amazon Primes catalogue like though? I find US Netflix to be very good.

Also do Amazon do 5.1 Audio now?

Prime Video no that much you need to pay extra or individually for any the good stuff. Netflix UK poor Netflix US good.

so with prime video can you see eveything or is it see a smal lselection and have to pay per view on the the other stuff?

They have some on a rental basis but mainly newer films, but some of these rental films are actually available on Netflix, through different regions.

I guess for all the benefits it isn't a bad price.

Has anyone ever had issues with using Amazon in two different locations? I normally allow my girlfriend to watch Netflix at hers when I'm working, but we could also watch a film at two locations and wouldn't have an issue. Will this be alright on Amazons?

No not really, my Mrs has netflix, and its not much different, at most 10% better, and that's mainly due to orange is the new black exclusivity, so we use both, I use Amazon, she uses Netflix

Its the same amount of stuff as netflix (oh and also 7 million songs  )

Just slightly different stuff (i.e. they scored deals with different studios)

All it is amazon ALSO OFFER the possibility of getting stuff that's not out on prime OR netflix, sooner, for a price, so no different to sky movies etc in that way

As I said above, netflix is ~10% better on the programming side.

Obviously amazon DESTROYS it on music, unlimited backup space for images, books, and free delivery...........purely because NF doesn't do that, so really it ought to be a lot better for films/tv, but really its only 10% or so, they both have the same documentaries, factual, etc etc

OH ALSO THEY WILL BE BROADCASTING THE NEW 'TOP GEAR CLARK/HAM/MAY' :D :D :D :D

My watches Prime stuff at her house and I watch it at mine at the same time on my account and never any issues.

Thanks guys, that's good to know.

To be fair when you stand back and see what you're getting for under £7 a month it isn't that bad a deal.

I agree, it seems a little too cheap to me :p

Paying Unblock-US at around £2.46 monthly, totals around £29.52 PA, and the cost of my Netflix for year at £71.88. Means on average I've been paying £101.40 every year. This now just doesn't look worth it for the extra few titles I may be able to view on another region.

Depends if you use amazon a lot for purchasing stuff? And how often?

It's a great service if you buy a lot ,but if not the delivery side becomes a very expensive privilege.

Netflix plus unblock US is on another level to amazon prime currently I feel.

I wouldn't say it is all based around the delivery, especially when you receive so many other benefits also.

We don't always find anything to watch on Netflix as it is, so having the refresh of Amazon may help us decide more films. Either way, my prime is now paid for and my Netflix is paid around the 9th, so I have plenty of time to compare both services and decide if Netflix is worth keeping :)

Having the one day delivery will help me decide on buying from Amazon now though.

I find Amazon and Netflix pretty much on Parr with each other these days. amazon has improved massively over the last year and a bit.

I have amazon fire tv, which I have unblock US set up.

Nice having the amazon content available at a premium if there's something I really want to watch.

I do feel I pay to much though, I have like you Netflix /unblock as well as amazon disc rental!!

I'm surprised so many on here use paid streaming sites espically when there are fantastic free alternatives with larger content libraries.
