Changes coming to Amazon Prime

Didn't realize the UK didn't get amazon prime video streaming.

We have amazon prime here in the US and the video streaming is great. Haven't bothered paying for netflix and don't pay any cable package either.

This annoys me, I get streamed lovefilm for free as a bonus to another contract... And I also have prime... So I'll be, in effect, getting charged for something I currently have already! Will be cancelling this year if there's no way to opt out....

It's worded to sound like prime is normal, streaming free until you renew after feb 2015, but after that point you will be able to get them separately... what is sneaky about this and why on earth would anyone cancel today in anger... when the cost doesn't increase until well, absolutely ages from now. If you don't like it, don't renew the streaming part next year.

There will no doubt be Amazon prime light, and Amazon prime total or something along those lines. £70 for streaming, £50 for delivery, or £79 if you take both..... what is with all the complaining?

How can you save £41 on the annual cost of a separate streaming subscription......... if they are not available separately to begin with?

I mean think about it like Lovefilm you can sign up for a dvd/streaming thing(ok last time I checked they had various levels). Sometimes you get say a 30 day trial or something of the premium membership and after 30 days you will continue to be charged unless you cancel OR CHOOSE A lower bracket membership. IE just dvd's or just streaming, whatever they used to offer. This is only saying essentially everyone is being put on the top end streaming + delivery membership and it will continue and I'd be very surprised if they don't give you the option of just delivery for a significant reduction.

I ordered prime a few months back, first thing i ordered never even arrived, after 4 weeks of Amazon promising me an explanation I just cancelled. Glad I did now price going up!

I like it because:-

1 - it can deliver not only to billing address, i can get it sent to work.
2 - I can time it to delivery on Saturday (big plus)
3 - 99% of the time i gets here next day, if not I get another month free.
4 - Real time stock levels
5 - It has almost everything I want, with the same level of customer service, from green tea to £2k camera

£79 is now a bit expensive and don't really want the streaming service but over the year I would think the saturday delivery alone would cost more than £100.

I do wish they offer the streaming service as an upgrade price with discount if you are a Prime member, as opposed to mandatory.

Am I misunderstanding bit point 1 you say prime allows delivery to another address? I've had orders sent to work without prime.

The main issue that I have with Amazon is that they use a mass of couriers of which 80% are woeful.

Prime is fantastic and have signed up after the trial. Not sure I want to pay extra for instant video (same as lovefilm?) as just have recently switched to netflix due to poor variety and lack of content on lovefilm

We won't have to renew at the new rate until next January. Not interested in the streaming so Outlook already has a reminder set to review whether we pay the extra £41 a year.

Over Christmas Amazon kept sending things to me via Royal Mail right in the middle of the Christmas post.

Ended up with 4 extra months thanks to that.

I had this over Xmas too, had three of four things that didn't turn up in time. One actually never arrived.

But I was told that because they gave me an extra month for the first error, there was nothing they could do for the subsequent cockups!

Needless to say I didn't renew!

standard rubbish

It's a service for those who don't mind paying for a premium service. Quite frankly it would cost a fortune to get the same delivery service every time you order £10 worth of Oreo's.

The free delivery was however always rubbish for me so I was happy to pay £50 a year for it. IMO it's starting to get a bit rich for me if I didn't use the streaming part. I guess I'll find out next time I want to order something as my sub ran out at the beginning of the month.

Isn't Prime just fueling the 'want it now must have it now regardless of cost culture'?

I only choose Amazon when it's the cheapest and only choose Free Delivery, it's not done me wrong so far?

I was referring to his second sentence.

He only choose Amazon, not "only Choose to use Prime".

Not every retailer allows you to send to other addresses, especially for expensive items.

So my reply was both on Amazon and Amazon Prime.

I finally paid for Prime a couple of weeks ago after using the trial and getting a few free months due to deliveries not arriving next day I like the fact it's pretty much guaranteed that stuff will be delivered on Saturday or Sunday when I'm actually in but I have no interest in the streaming so don't think I'll be paying £80 odd for it next year.
You never know maybe they'll start to offer 2 tiers although I doubt it.

Thought I'd try the 30 day free trial, usually just use standard delivery. Just checked my bank and Amazon have taken £79 out of my account.

Have you only just signed up for the trial or has it auto billed you at the end of your trial?
Or did you just blindly click through after clicking on the try amazon prime button as you're not always eligible even though the first button mentions a free trial.
Either way just go into your account and cancel it as you've not used it you'll be refunded the full amount.

I've been using prime and think it's great, getting that email has made me think twice about renewing it again. I had a free year with love film and never used it, there was nothing ever that we wanted to watch and the application design on various devices was pretty dire when i used it.

I'm a netflix subscriber anyway so a £30 increase for something i'll never use?

LoveFilm was pants last time I checked. No 5.1 audio and lack of 1080p content. Boooo! Not sure if it's changed since. I'm happy with US Netflix tbh.

Also, I never have issues using standard/super saver delivery. Some stuff comes lightning quick although I'm usually happy to wait a few days.

Hmmm... just logged in and had a brief look through the catalogue of movies.

So... charging £30 a year extra for the privilege of NOT having access to the majority of films available without paying more. Many of which are available on Netflix with no restrictions.

They're going to need to make this more attractive, or set up a split Prime subscription with/without streaming access.
