Changing fortunes for PC gaming..??

Just to refresh for people who do not bother reading previous posts:

1. Research finds that 195 million PCs capable of gaming were sold between 2005-2010. TO add to that 80-100 million graphics cards are sold every year. TO add to that Nvidia stated that they "have 180 million active geforce users".
2. This pure data allowed for research to conclude that there are 80-200 million gaming PCs worldwide.
3. This compares to 23 million Xbox360 and 17 million PS3 user base (official numbers for 2010).

But lets hear stories about mothers friends burning DVDs for friends with consoles and how one console is much much much more while the other is much less - this is much much much better way of arguing. ;)

And, to finish the refresher course of this tread:

4. Official numbers of sales of Modern Warfare 3 were the following: 54% Xbox 360, 40% PS3, 6% PC.
The 360 accounts for 57% of Crysis 2's sales, with the PS3 taking 29% and the PC raking in a miserable 14%.

Considering that PC gamers are generally more discerning, isn't using a crapfest of a console port a poor example? I'm offended that it sold as many as it did.

I KNOW that people trade(as in for money) in illegally downloaded console games. A group of people involved in the copying and selling of console games, usually from 1 torrent/source. They do the same with films. You can request a list from them.

And again, Rise of Flight did not have water tight DRM. It was just one of the many titles that have never been released with a working crack. A bit like Arkham City doesn't have a 100% working crack, only broken p2p attempts which need to be mix and matched to get it working. It doesn't have water tight DRM or anything, other games with the same DRM have been released. It has simply been missed somehow. I saw a list of uncracked games a few months ago, if I can find it I'll post it for you. They must have unbelievable, magic and water tight DRM.

LMAO, next you'll be saying that because Street Cleaning Simulator had no DRM it didn't sell very well...

If you could post such a list (uncracked games I mean) it would be great- I could not find such a thing for recent times.

RoF was never cracked in any shape or form, so its as wter tight as it can get. Heres a comment form the pBay written to RoF torrent:

So, this torrent has been here for nearly three years now. Nobody has cracked it yet???
LMAO:)

And rof is no street cleaning sim - official numbers for RoF, coming from its owner directly - they have 200.000 active users.

Hey, I completely agree with you on MW3 - I think its pants. But its a popular game that is just a sample here.

It would be good to see some numbers on Batman, Assassins Creed and other single player games, but I bet that this ratio would be similar for all of them.

It may still lag even more when the new Xbox comes out as it is rumoured to be using a 6670 card which is a low end £60 card LOL

It's a huge leap in terms of performance from what's in there at the moment (X1800), and it'll perform leaps and bounds better than a 6670 card ever could in a PC due to developers being able to optimise for a single platform.

Were you expecting them to use £400 mammoths in the next gen and then marketing the finished product at £800?

Shocker as console easymode FPS cloned for the 5th year running sells more on consoles and PC users don't buy that crap, obviously if they had better DRM they would have sold a lot more.

What about someone that can't afford to buy games. They pinch and scrimp, possibly build a gaming pc in stages, because they can get free games for it. Then download everything that comes out. Aside from the fact they wont play half of what they download, none of these can be counted as lost sales.

Its not about lost sales, its about the fact that consoles have 2-5 times (!) smaller user base than PC but generate around 90% profits on very same games.

But I cant find reliable (ie coming from developers themselves) data on more games. Some sources just speculate, some ignore digital downloads (whats the point of stats that exclude digital sales!!!?!).
But if you have info on sales for SINGLE player focused games (not BF3, Starcraft and WOW)- please chime in!

Most PC gamers knew Mw3 was going to be Bad and didn't buy it, Go compare BF3 which sold many copys because everyone knew it would be awesome.

Except they don't have a userbase gap like that at all. You've been comparing console userbase to gaming capable PC machines.

The university I went to had thousands of capable machines in its labs and not one of them would have been used as a gaming machine. You can't just say 200 million machines = 200 million gamers.

If you take all the capable machines sold in business and education alone it must be more than half that number. Let alone enthusiasts that have no interst in gaming (like the folding lot on here), or people that buy a machine higher specced than they need.

My work PC is a quad core with 8gb ram and a graphics card that would play games fine, but it's not a gaming machine. I've got more than one machine at home that could play games. You could be counting some people three or four times in that number.

Modern Warfare (historically) had decent single player. BF was always multiplayer focused. BF3 is nearly all about multiplayer- so like Starcraft, WoW it does not count.
