Changing the Pop kingpins

How many are still alive?
Well what we know as the Pop there's also the top model which was the Anglia and they sold quite a few of them too. They didn't really rust as badly as the later 60's cars so there are loads still about. It's in the thousands.

I would say it would be quite fun with that amount of power. Just right I bet for it.

So that will increase the top speed from 62mph, so hopefully you can do 70. :D

Those extra revs should help a lot with the long difference between 2nd and 3rd gear, especially up hills.
Pretty much what I think too

Mathematically yes, but there's a difference between a 50% gain on a Seirra Cosworth and a 50% gain on a sewing machine.

In what way is there a difference? 50% is 50% whichever way you look at it, and 50% extra power will give a significant improvement in performance whether it's a Ford Pop, a Cosworth or a Massey Ferguson.

Yes, improvement in performance, but the difference between 30hp and 50hp won't be as noticable as 300hp to 450hp for example.

It is actually quite noticeable. Like we said above it has a habit of slowing right down on hills but with the extra it won't at all. It's the difference between being under powered and adequately powered. If I wanted to make it go fast I would but I have a fast car nearly done in the garage.

Even driven something with 30hp, then souped up? It's like switching from a firework to a solid rocket booster :D

I've told myself a million times not to exaggerate....but you get my gist

Now, I appreciate classic cars and the likes more than most here, but dear god man, how can you live with that as it is, as your daily driver?

I don't understand

What's fuel economy like?
Gets about 30-35mpg round town I think. Book says something like that.

It's got 45-50bhp, it's dangerously under-powered, and you're not even getting decent mpg.

It seems like you're still fixing it as you go along.

You were driving it with vague steering that wandered about on the road, I'm sure the rest of it is a bit tatty in that case.

It can barely get to 60mph, and you're not exactly safe in it.

I don't know why anyone would voluntarily drive that every day. :p :D

So how much power should a 3/4 ton car have?

Barely get to 60? ha, mine stuggles after 50 (unless it's on a hill)

I don't see how you can be Jonny confused, you posted these :p

The engine is a 30hp flathead-4 going through a 3 speed gearbox with very basic syncromesh which may as well not be there.

There is a horrible hill up from Westerham to Biggin Hill and that is the only place the car stuggles. Speed drops down to about 25mph and speed is limited by the huge jump between 2nd and 3rd gear. In 2nd the engine is screaming in agony

Round the bends the body roll is quite astonishing and cars on the other side of the road literally move right over their side when they see me coming round a bend.

The brakes. Everyone should drive a car with cable brakes at least once in their life - it's character building. I'm not going to beat around the bush here they are frankly rubbish. No, they are non-existant. Let me describe what happens when you press the brake pedal: Initially nothing happens

In an emergency it's all a bit more intense and exaggerated and involves a gear change to knock off a few extra mph. You wouldn't want to rely on them.

By today's standards the engine runs extremely hot and it needs topping up with water regularly as it boils it off. Naturally it leaks a lot of oil as well

the seats offer negative support and spill you out during a bend. There's no radio

I take it all back, it's obviously an awesome and safe car, that has no problem moving under it's own weight, and is fine as a daily driver :D

Sorry, I just don't get why that lot wouldn't be fun?

Up until that point your post was quite funny with a good selection of comedy quotes - but the trolling killed it.

Sounds like a right adventure to drive on todays roads!
