Chav parents feed kids fish and chips through gates

I must admit when I watched Jamie Olivers programs on reforming the school dinners I did wonder if the quality of food would be the same in all schools.

It may well be the case that the kitchen in question isn't the best and the answer may be to fix that rather than have a go at the kids/parents for seeking alternatives.

I used to eat what I wanted when I was younger. I think half the problem now is the kids who eat what they want whilst sat infront of a computer or the television.

Young kids seem a lot less active nowadays - maybe some of that could be blamed on the way things are now but you certainly don't see half as many out as when I was younger.

Did you read the article? They're complaining about the time allotted for the meal as well. I know if I'd had half an hour to eat I wouldn't have bothered cos I wouldn't have been able to play footy as well, so footy and no meal would've been the choice.

I did that many a time at school, didn't stop me secretly eating my sandwiches during class though. :D

when i was at school i ate Lasagna + salad and a strawberry cheescake every day. i really enjoyed it. :)

The dinner lady on the program I watched stated she saw the kids come into the school and they would ask for a burger and chips. They never asked for anything different and would leave the school only ever having eaten burger and chips for dinner. Sad really.

Half an hour for a lunch break is totally ridiculous. I'd be all for an hour's break, maybe two.

Might as well prepare them for a working life, half an hour is the norm.

So they have time to get their parents to take their order and get them and then eat fish and chips, but not enough time to eat the school dinner? It's not really an excuse, is it? We used to eat as fast as we could to get out and play football.

If they are that worried then give them a packed lunch. For 6 years at school my dinner was a sandwich, packet of crisps and a biscuit.

School dinners, are flipping awful though, or they used to be anyways.

A little bit early to be throwing them into the norm for a working life...

Of course they can - they tell their parent in the morning and the parent brings it to the gate right on the bell :)

Half an hour lunch isn't that bad. If it's the time that's the issue, why not just talk to the school about it, rather than slotting food through like some sort of Fat Camp. Still a pathetic way to go about it.
