Chav parents feed kids fish and chips through gates

1/2 an hour for a lunch break is ridiculous no wonder kids are getting fat no where near enough time for kids to excercise. When i was at primary school we had 60mins-70mins lunch break and most of us back then played football for a good 40mins.

From the story it seems both sides are to blame the parents for giving young children access to unhealthy food and the school for not having enough facilities to accommodate

Half an hour for a lunch break is totally ridiculous. I'd be all for an hour's break, maybe two.

I agree. Then again we come from a culture where we take our food more seriously (and more healthily) - but then our life expectancy is higher too ;)

I take as long as I want for lunch - then again I take my lunch seriously.

Kids need time to run around, 30 mins for lunch is frankly pathetic - and as for the comment of preparing them for work life?! That the funniest and most ridiculous piece of **** comment I've ever heard! :D

At school we had a salad bar/buffet thing and a hot meals section - so it was entirely up to you what you had. You had the chance and choice of having as many veggies as you wanted. Needless to say I of course did. But I later went off to bringing my own lunch in as it meant I could go out and sit elsewhere with my friends and not have to be in a noisy cramped food hall.

I think the problem with a lot of kids these days is they are not introduced to a wide range of food at a young age and their paletes develop a lot more slowly - if they get fed burgers and chips at a young age - of course other foods will start tasting "horrid", they are polluting their taste buds development. No wonder Britain is become a nation of porkers. Compare it to the Med or France it's really very very apparent.

I think the parents are just as much to blame really. If the parents don't introduce the kids to it they'll never try it. Furthermore if the kids should have a broader choice, with less "fry up" or cheap easy food such as burgers and chips.

Go a generation back, we were a lot slimmer and had a more educated sense of gastronomy.

These parents should be done for child abuse.

By the picture in the report, it looks like they have just bought the food from a nearby hamburger van or chip shop. There also appears to be quavers, cans of pop and lucozade in there as well. Hardly healthy is it?

It's the same (probably better) than what schools have been serving for years.

If you take a scholl canteen that can barely get burger and chips right.....how are they going to measure up when given a wide range of healthy options to cook? It's going to taste a bit rank :p

It doesn't mean that the parents should continue to feed their kids the same carp though.

Train the staff better. It's hardly rocket science cooking a few vegetables is it?

The problem is that if the kids have been brought up at home eating rubbish, then it's hard to wean them off this rubbish. The kids food preferences are almost set in stone in the first few years of their lives.

WTF why dont they just given the pack lunches like most parents, its not hard to make up some sandwiches and add some crisp/apple/chocolate bar.

This country

schools check lunchboxes now, they wouldnt be allowed crisps or chocolate bars

all this healthy eating is to do wih making the kids healthier isnt it ? give them an hour lunch and theres an extra half hours excercise straight away

i know when i was at school we would rush our dinner down and go play footy for the last 50 mins of lunch :)

Having a burger and chips then running around for 1 hour is better than eating healthy meal then going straight back to lessons.

when did i mention burger and chips......... a packet of crisps and sandwiches was the norm for pack lunches when i was at school

have your rolleyes back

the whole reason these parents are doing this is because there kids WONT eat the healthy meals .

having a sandwich and pack of crisps then running about is surely better than eating nothing at all.

I would say that during most of my nearly 30 years of working life I have only ever had 30-45 minutes lunch break
Unlucky. I get an hour every day if I want it. Have done for years.

No it isn't  A burger and chips are going to give you some quick energy which you'll burn right up playing football, then when you go back to lessons you won't be able to concentrate.

I'd have told them to go screw. As a kid and as a parent :p

They did this at my sons school and even put little notes in to say it wasnt good enough.

I went in and asked to see who did it and got presented to the lady in question:

"Whats this?"

"We dont think your son's lunch of a packet of crisps and some chocholate biscuits is healthy"

"First of all, my son has a cooked breakfast every morning, and proper dinner when he gets home every night, he doesnt WANT to be shoving sandwitches into his face at 12.30 every day, he wants something to see him through till 4.30 when his dinner is. I think we need to define what our roles in Benjamin's life are, I'm his father, I'll deciede what is appropriate for him to eat and I think what i feed him is good enough, thats an end to the discussion YOUR job is to teach him to read and write and to make sure the school toilets work, something which you have FAILED to do in the 18 months he has been here. IF he ever collapses from malnutrition feel free to ring the social services and have me prosecuted, where as what action do i take to get your failings addressed?"

"umm....."

"thats right i take him away from you as you dont have a ******* clue what your job is"

I called in a favour from an old school friend who got his dad (who was the headmaster at a school in a different town) to get him there instead.
******* teachers, i hate the *******'s.

If kids WON'T eat, then they go hungry ...... simple; it's the same with animals, all the people I know who give their dog chicken or fish or steak or whatever because Fido WON'T eat dog food are wrong; whilst you keep feeding Fido what he wants/prefers rather than dog food, he will refuse to eat the dog food .............. give Fido dog food only for a few days and he will gladly eat it rather than starve.

Never had problems myself, perhaps teachers just making excuses why they can't "concentrate" perhaps now teachers can't do a thing to control rowdy kids so just put the blame on something else? Our society is to blame with PC non smacking/can't shout at kids to SIT DOWN, SHUT UP!

Growing kids need to eat stodgy food, if just eating salads and the like just grow up weak with no energy. Strange how kids grew up in the 60's fine eh?

O RLY?

I like how it has to be junk food vs "salads".

Yeah, eating healthily and good food != "salads"

You can have a very filling meal with lots of nutritional value without it being stodgy or unhealthy.

As you become an adult you learn that everything works in moderation - i.e. you can have the occaisional burger as you know you don't over do it and have a well varied diet. It's far more important to have a variety, even burgers and chips from time to time, than just to have the same food group over and over again.

Well our school lunches were either fast food, the healthy option was a salad which isn't filling. Didn't have curry or lasagne every day so that's usually more healthier than chips. I don't recall any in our school being fat/overweight at least in high % to be a problem, perhaps 1 in 100. Can't recall length of lunch break but at least 1 hour

come on now, most adults dont know that lol. That's the reason kids eat what they do these days

Sensationalist nonsense

Why is it?

These 'parents' are knowingly feeding their kids absolute rubbish yet they know it may have a detrimental effect on their future health. That, i n my eyes, is abusing your child!

The parents are so bloody bone idle that they can't be bothered to cook proper food. I'd sterilise these parents to make sure they can't have more kids and therefore stop them draining the NHS when the kids are 32 stone and suffering from heart problems etc. I really would, i feel that strongly.

They're a disgrace to good parents who actually have their children's health and future in mind.

Load of rubbish, no one can tell you what you can and cant eat, its up to you, if i want junk food, ill damn well ******* eat junk food, ITS UP TO ME!!!!. :D
