Cheap, simple ways to make your house smell nice?

Get the place professional cleaned once in a while, in particular the carpets steam cleaned. Get down and have a wiff of your carpets, then consider they are all over your house, and releasing a lot of foot odour.

You can also clean with bleach if you're careful. Will kill a lot of the smells on surfaces.

If your house is tidy and not too dirty, there really isn't any further way to improve smells without just masking them, and like a lot of people in this thread, those products are terrible.

I'm willing to bet that your house doesn't actually smell that bad, the issue is mroe that you can't smell it (as you're not supposed to) and so want a smell to smell so you think your house smell, smells good.

whats always interesting is going away for a while then working out what the house actually smells like when you get back.

Apparently you can just boil some nice smelling food in a pot (apple, cinnamon, pine, ginger etc) to make the house small nice.

...or just poo through someone else's letterbox

Just like those in this thread that claim their house doesn’t stink. Always worth remembering that you get used to the smell of your own house.

For example, homes with animals usually stink!

Wax melts seem to be a good one - the missus is always burning one.

You can get an electrical burner if you don't want a live flame.

Wax melts or incense sticks - both involve burning though. As long as you're careful and don't place candles near anything that could burn (ie: curtains or other objects being blown near the flame by the wind), you will be fine.

I've never heard of wax melts before, but thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of going for an electric version like this one (link below)? Would that be ok? What do I need to search for, for the wax pieces themselves? I would just like plain wax, because I love the burnt out smell of candles being blown out.

Get a pan and put coffee in it and boil it with the lid off for a while. If you like drinking coffee then pour into a cup after.

Would that be fresh beans/ground coffee like the smell you get in a coffee shop? Quite like the idea of this too but it would be situational like in your house selling example.

I imagine it'll be fine, I'm not sure if you'll need to buy specific wax melts though (thinner) due to the slow heating from the bulb. The heat from a tea light is quite a bit.

You can get the wax melts from quite a few shops, like B&M, pound shops, etc. I've never used the electric burners before so I can't comment on those.

Give incense sticks a try - they don't burn for very long, but can fill your house with aroma very quickly.
