Cheap, simple ways to make your house smell nice?

Apart from just opening the windows that is :)

I like a nice smelling house. I've the usual fabreze/Air-wick sorta thing plug in triple diffusers, battery powered squirting devices on a timer. They work fine. Trouble is the refills are so expensive. Third party refills are a bit cheaper but not as effective in my experience.

I've a potpouri bowl in the lounge and wondering if theres a nice smelling essential oil I could use to sprinkle over it and let it do its stuff.

I do not like burning things in the house from a safety point of view. (accidents can happen) So candles and burning things like incense sticks are out.

I have no pets and no foul odours to cover up. I just like a nice smelling house.

Oh, and simple too. I can't be bothered mixing up concoctions of ingredients.

Any simple, CHEAP, suggestions?

I get that nose blindness will play a part in time so switching scents from time to time is probably a good idea.

.

Get a gf, women can make anything smell good.

The beauty of these, is the oils last ages as you only use tiny ammounts, and theres millions of different ones to choose from:

And you can buy blends too: https://www.calmer-solutions.com/blends-13-c.asp

Have you got the electric one linked above? Reviews seem hit and miss just and I was almost going to order it.

Using essential oils is definitely the most cost effective option. Can change them about easy enough too.

diluted zoflora (there's different fragrances) used a s a spray is good for smelling 'clean' but not an air wick/magic tree/ make you feel like you've got the cold! type smell

Wax melts or incense sticks - both involve burning though. As long as you're careful and don't place candles near anything that could burn (ie: curtains or other objects being blown near the flame by the wind), you will be fine.

We always had a dog when I was young.. so to make the house smell better when guests were due.. my mum always used to rinse clean dish cloths in clothes softener, and then put them on the radiators.. works better when the heating is on.. mum's eh! :)

Some are "simple"... rarely cheap though :p
Agreed. I come home from work and I'm greeted by a lovely, pleasant aroma. 3 or 4 fragrance devices on the go at any given time. I quite like the fabreze and airwick stuff (Call me chav. Maybe I don't know any better. :)
I'm going to try some of the suggestions here. The ultrasonic diffusers and essential oils will be worth a try, I think.
Pricewise, it isn't going to break the bank but if I can lower the "running costs" then all the better.

For our kitchens and bathrooms we use the scented Method spray cleaners. Plus ensure bins are emptied regular. Open windows occasionally, weather permitting. Unless you have old carpet with ingrained dog smells, that ought to be enough for the place to smell nice.

Get a pan and put coffee in it and boil it with the lid off for a while. If you like drinking coffee then pour into a cup after.

I did this before people viewed my last property and it sold quickly. Could be an old wives tale but definitely seemed to work.

I wasn't referring the air fresheners...

No that was just a random example I found.. So I'd maybe look into it a bit more to make sure you get a decent one.

I use essential oils but in one of those tea light water bath things.

The thing is to change the fragrances everytime you change it - nose blindness.

There are very few Christmas/winter themed room fragrances I like. Pine which sets off my asthma - cannot go to people's homes if they have a real tree over Christmas. As a child, one of my late great aunts and uncles had a real tree and I sat in the furthest seat away from the tree. Most winter spices smell fake. Besides, why would you like to have your home smelling of toilet cleaner?

At work, we sell Glade's Lily of the Valley gel blocks which absolutely stink. The smell reminds me of old dears.

Primark have some small reed diffusers for 90p - that's what I paid for one earlier this year.
