Chelsea open talks with Shevchenko

Bit unfair to call morientes a flop tbh.

Well, no it isnt.

He's had an extended run in the team, has been ineffective as a starter and a sub, he has scored bugger all goals in a shed load of appearences and his overall play is somewhat akin to Emile Heskey with a severe groin injury.

Don't "obviously" me, the fact that someone's awesome in one league doesn't mean that they are gonna be awesome in another. Just look at Henry, Kalle Riedle, Sean Dundee, Diego Forlan, Nando Morientes, Kezman, Veron, etc. etc. etc. The list goes on and on. Only time will tell. Besides, its only an inkling. But don't "obviously" me.

nah, sheva is fantastic player, he isnt a ponsey sunlight estremo either, he will cope with the dodgy weather...

he isnt a lightweight either.

unfortunately i think sheva will be unstoppable at chelsea

He is one of those players who can do nothing the entire match and then play for 5 minutes and win the game for his team.

To be fair, Henry only had one season at Juve and was then sold for a fee in excess of ten million pounds. I still reckon he could perform in Italy given a decent run, I mean look at the way he's annihilated teams like Inter, Roma, Juve etc in the Champions League over the last few seasons.

Morientes has flopped, which leaves me somewhat baffled to be honest - I thought he was a very good player.

I don't think Shevchenko will flop if he comes to England, because he has arguably been one of the top3 forwards in the world in recent years. He should have at least 2 more years playing at a high level left in him.

Thierry Henry was played on the left wing at Juventus and most of his games came from the bench........

I think he made 16 appearences for Juventus on the left wing, about 10 or so of them coming from the bench and yet he managed to score 3 goals.. considering his age and the circumstances I'd hardly say that was awful..

If Henry went to Italy, Spain or anywhere he'd rip it apart. He is the best striker in the world.

As for Chelsea getting Shevchenko, heh, they might as well put the bubbly on ice..

hmm what would be their team

--------Chech--------
Ferreira Terry Carvalho Carlos
-----Makalele Essien------
----Ballack Lampard---------------
-----Crespo Shevchenko ----------

:D

I'm sure Crespo won't be there next season, he admitted to wanting to leave and the wise thing to do would p/x for Shevch..

he wasn't happy last season but they offered him a new contract - and he seemed pleased from what he said on it, plus maybe he'll want to be partnered with schevchenko again. I think he'll stay

the premiership will truly be the best league in the world... not to mention the usuals, we all know them
Premiership has been the best league in the world for the last 8-9 years! There's no other league in the world as enjoyable to watch.

Why should they get the bubbly on ice? Surely signing Schevchenko isn't that big of a deal if the best striker in the world already plays at a different club in the same league.

That team would more than likely get destroyed by teams in the same league. Not having any wideplayers is just asking for trouble. They'd be blocked out through the middle (they probably wouldn't have won the league without Joe Cole this season!) and Ferreira and Carlos are hardly likely to deal with balls over the top. Essien is all over the place defensively and Makalele is a bit of a lightweight if you ask me.
Whilst individually talented throughout that 11, that team wouldn't be as strong as it could be with some changes.

Ok, you clearly have not seen him play. that better?

You mention Shevchenko in the same breath as Morientes and Kezman, and expect to be taken seriously?

No need for the arrogance/tetchiness

Morientes was just used as an example of a great player who came to the prem and was utter tosh, there are plenty more examples. How good they are/were in relation to Scheva is irrelevant to the argument

Hmm my only fear is that they buy these two good players and they end up like Real Madrid, all the big names but not wining a lot.

The difference is that:

1) Chelsea have a top manager
2) Chelsea have superior squad depth
3) Chelsea have a solid defensive unit
