Chelsea open talks with Shevchenko

No need for the arrogance/tetchiness

Morientes was just used as an example of a great player who came to the prem and was utter tosh, there are plenty more examples. How good they are/were in relation to Scheva is irrelevant to the argument

For me somebody saying Don't "obviously" me is an example of arrogance. I was merely replying

Also, it is entirely relevant to the argument how good morientes and kezmen are in relation to shevchenko. If you're gonna say how you expect a player to perform and then give examples of other players, you need to use players of similar ability otherwise the argument doesn't hold up

He will do okay but i cant see him pulling up any trees.

He isnt the type of player that is going to run riot on a team like Henry or Rooney, or even Drogba.

"obviously"-ing someone is more arrogance than asking someone not to.

I have watched Shevchenko play, in a different league with a different style of play. Which, if you would understand my argument, would realise means nothing. A player's individual skill will carry someone only so far, you have to take into account the team's style of play, the team's tactics, the opponent's tactics, and other such factors.

Besides which - I said it was an inkling.

not really, Morientes was past it by the time Liverpool signed him. In the previous season, while he did score in Europe - he scored only 10 goals in 28 games in the French league. In any case Schevchenko has always been in a different league to him.

I cant see that either. I can however see him scoring a **** load of goals though.

Drogba is no where near a wold class player. IMO he was worth no more than 10m nevermind 24m, Shevchenko, however is one of he recognised top 5 players in the world and is worth every penny of the 35-40m being spent on him.

He is a consistent, big, quick, skillful player and an instinctive goalscorer. He isnt just a big man to hoof the ball upto, he will create goals as much as others do for him imo

You recon?

I dont see him getting 20 goals next season with Chelsea, i also dont see chelsea going on to do any better than they did this season in the champions league, i also see the gap at the top getting narrower, not because of other teams getting better, but because of the chelsea bandwagon running out of steam.

OK, i take it back if you were offended by it. I only used that phrase as i was very surpsrised that you thought he might flop, not to be arrogant.

However, you didn't ask me to not "obviously" you, you said it as if you were tellin me off or somethin. That's why you came accross as arrogant to me.

We can call it a misunderstanding and let it be if you want, that's fine by me

why do such a great team with so much money have drogba up front?

Because he's actually scored 31 goals in 62 appearances and has had the prems top assists two years running! I know its shocking, i didnt believe it tbh, i'l try and find the report... HERE

btw i am a chelsea fan, and a little bit of a Drogba hater, ish. On his day though he is exceptional, he just burns so many chances.

I'm not Drogba's biggest fan but i have to say that the lone striker role which he so often plays is one of the hardest jobs you can do on a football pitch. It is also quite often a thankless task in which your overall goal tally suffers quite a bit.

I think that is wishfull thinking. :D
True - a lie I'll admit. :p

Just a point/question. Imagine what would happen to Chelsea if he did?

Hmmm - £35-£40m and worth every penny!? That sounds like the sort of quote only made by people who've never watched a lower league game in their life!! ;)

from a neutral point of view (newcastle) i'd rather watch shevchenko than drogba, having seens shev in a few games (il admit no more than 5) but i just dislike drogba greatly, he hasnt impressed me all season

on the subject of the team in general, i think R carlos would be a bad move, although i would like to see him in the premiership i think he past the peak of his game, and Essien has never impressed me all season.
